Cisse Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Froom the total depression beginning of January to where we are tonite ! They've put in a great shift. Out: Hodge, Kelly, Babel, Konchesky and good money for our star striker who not wanted to part of our great club. in : Kenny, Clarke, Suarez, Carroll.......BELIEF. Future is bright, future is RED...YNWA
Hassony Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 I can imagine the summer will be really busy, a complete overhaul of the playing squad, this time with proper money ball signings
JonShar Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 They've been fantastic. People will find a way to complain about how they'd left it late in the day, they spent too much money on Carroll and possibly Adam, but the reality is they've done everything in a very intelligent way. Waiting until summer wouldn't have knocked their prices down - Spurs at the least would have been in for Carroll, and they've got pockets deep enough to push the price up. Buying him today eliminates any danger of a bidding war. It also gets them in for the rest of the season - start building the team in the image Kenny wants, add a couple of faces in the summer instead of 5 or 6, and gives as many people as possible a full pre-season. I think the owners have handled this whole situation as well as they possibly could, and hats off to them - very happy with their approach.
Epic Swindle Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Money ball doesn't actually mean not spending big on individual players. They've done well with Suarez and after having the Torres saga lumped on them. Think we're going to be busy again the summer, lot of deadwood to shift and at least a wide player, CB, LB, and DM to come in.
Earl Hafler Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Still think they were too slow to get rid of Hodgson but once the ball was rolling, it's as if The Dude himself had thrown it. Throw in Gray and Keys getting sacked and it's been a spectacular month
Rory Fitzgerald Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 The only good thing about selling Torres was that the money could be reinvested in the future of the club, instead somebody has jizzed 35mln all over St James Park. I think its almost criminal how bad this was handled - imagine being told we trade in Torres for Carroll and Adam and 10mln - is that the kind of rebuilding we had envisaged !!!
Kahnee Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Appreciation? But I was reading just this morning what a dog's breakfast they'd made of the whole window...

I know it's not a popular opinion but I have to agree with you here, if we'd bid for Kaka or Benzema then fair enough but this just stinks of "we have to sign someone or the fans will shout at us". Why are we so desperate? We're not going to go down. We're not going to qualify for the CL. So why couldn't we wait until the summer?

Do you really think that's what Kenny thinks or believes?? Really?? If so, you need to have a f***ing word with yourself.
RedMersey Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 I think this more than anything shows the club's intent on going for 4th. Probably won't make it though.

amokop Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 To me it just seems they've bought forward their plans from the summer with players like Carroll and the reported link to Richards and Young. I think the intention was to add Suarez and Adam and maybe one more like an N'zogbia if we could make it happen, but with Torres making it clear he wasn't waiting until the summer they have decided that they won't wait until the summer either.
Gomez Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 (edited) Tomorrow morning, Comolli and FSG need to start working on Pepe to get him to sign a new contract with no Purslow clause before June. Maybe Wednesday, they can have a day off Edited January 31, 2011 by Gomez

Benzema not much different. You'd be whinging whatever we done.

Save your breath - the guys a WUM. Despite what some of the knee-jerk Sky-tw**s on here might think, NESV continue to prove themselves worthy guardians of our club. Alright Fernando, you want to leave. Sit there and do f*** all (like you've done for 80% of your match time in the last 12 months) and wait till we sort out your replacement before we give you permission to move a f***ing muscle. And that was after Kenny told him yesterday to train on his own till we finalised his sale. Brilliant. I love these guys.
The walters step over Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 (edited) With fans like you .... Do you really think that's what Kenny thinks or believes?? Really?? If so, you need to have a f***ing word with yourself. It was more about the owners - Kenny obviously rates him otherwise it wouldn't have happened.Since he made his debut Andy Carrolls name has hardly been mentioned on here as someone we should be after, maybe one or two said something but there's never been a "he's the one for us" feeling about him. If you want to say any nay sayers are lesser fans then fine but nothing happens in a vacuum, there are consequences to everything. His wages will be appropriate for the most expensive British player ever, what happens when the likes of Kuyt or Reina or Agger say "hang on, it's was all right when the best striker in the world was earning £30,000 a wk more than me but this fella? I want the same". What would you do, just say what a lot on here are saying "it's not my money" and just pay them? The talk is now that Blackpool want around £14m for Adam, a big part of that is because of the Carroll fee. We're going to get that a lot from now on, in the same way that City do - which won't matter if we spend at Citys levels, but the board have already said that they won't - so what happens then, will it mean that we won't be able to afford our first choice targets? There would be a risk if we signed Messi (could he adapt to England, for instance) but with most highly rated foreigners, if they don't work out then there's always some team on the continent that will give you a fair price for them. If Carroll flops, tell me which teams will pay even half what we have. We haven't had to beat off any other team for his signature, Chelsea don't need him, neither do City or Utd so why have we paid so much? If we were a couple of points from 4th or in the CL then it would still be massively overpriced but I could see why they wanted someone in now but we're not - we have ONE trophy that we could win and if you believe that we can still qualify in 4th then tell me which two teams out of Spurs,City,Utd,Chelsea and Arsenal we are better than and can realistically finish above. If you want to call me a WUM and you're not concerned that we're trying top spend close to fifty million pound on two players that have never played for a club as big as ours, are not regular internationals and have basically just had a good 6 months each then that's fine, but I am. Yes, because that was the only two options open to us.. Edited January 31, 2011 by The walters step over
RP Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Yes, because the only alternative to buying Andy Carroll is doing f*** all. It's what we would have done in every previous transfer window. Or sign Carlton Cole.
