With fans once again being treated like gullible fools what is left that is good in football? And are there any good guys left?

I get almost as much joy from a rival player suffering a serious injury as I do from a Liverpool win. Sure, the nastiness was enjoyable for a while but it does sum up why the game doesn't exactly fill me with clap-happy sunshine. A good leg-break can be the highlight of my weekend; things are that bad.

And good guys? It can't just be Kenny, can it? And Rafa. Reina too, hopefully (though this summer will be his big test). Houllier as well. Errrrr....

Dario Gradi? Wow, ain't many. Fecks sake, I have more respect for Giggs & Scholes than a number of our players :(

And who's to blame for the game being in the state it is? Murdoch? Thatcher? Bosman? Agents? The early superstar have-it-all players like Best & Keegan?

A bit controversial this, but i think Hillsborough has a lot to do with it. The game changed after that, new stadiums and a new image. The old run down stadia and 'look' of football went and the new shiny game came in. With that we had the Premier League and the vast amounts of money that brought in.

I think it has a bit to do with it, yeah. New grounds = new costs = Sky = increased ticket prices = new fans = increased revenue = more £££ out of the game to spoilt players and manipulative agents.

But I think it would have happened anyway.

I think you're right. I am not sure how much SKY offered (can't be bothered looking it up), and were they up against Maxwell's BSB in securing rights? Pay TV has changed football, even if the Premier league wasn't 'formed' huge TV deals would have happened I am pretty sure.

I think the whole Blue Print of the Premier league (remember that?) was a waste of time, one of the rules was you had to have underground heating to play in the league.....

football's never really been a source of 'good', but what's made it increasingly annoying the last couple of decades is it's been increasingly middle-class oriented - just like society in general, in fact

The game has gone down the crapper at an alarming rate.

However, i cheer myself up every time I sit down to watch Barcelona play.

11 players on the pitch who actually look like they are enjoying the game and they entertain in almost every game.

It takes me back to the glory days of the 1980's when it was a privelege to go and watch Barnes, Beardsley, Dalglish, Rush and Aldridge.

there is plenty good in football - you just have to watch stuff from a nuetral standpoint. I accept thats practically impossible if you follow one team in the top level and I laugh when numpty commentators come out with the 'great games for the neutrals' comment. I dont think I've ever watched one of these supposed 'great game for the nuetrals' matches because as a fan of a particular team in that division you have an interest in the ootcome of almost all games.

Take tonights games

Arsenal 2-1 Everton | Bad result, would have been bad if it was reversed too

Man Utd 3-1 Aston Villa | Bad result

Sunderland 2-4 Chelsea | Bad, would have been less bad had Sunderland won

West Brom 2-2 Wigan | Who wants to watch that s****?

Tomorrows games

Birmingham v Man City, 19:45 Home win please

Blackburn v Tottenham, 20:00 Home win please

Blackpool v West Ham, 20:00 Away win please after that Oyston jobber

Bolton v Wolverhampton, 20:00Who wants to watch this s****

Fulham v Newcastle, 20:00 or this?

Liverpool v Stoke, 20:00 Home win please

So no games for me as a neutral (and obviously not the last one but thats the one I'll watch come whatever and if you watch any of those games even highlights you can see by your own thoughts and actions how your view of the teams is coloured by the varying levels of hate you feel for them.

If you want to enjoy a game then watch some Spanish/French/German/Italian games, not necessarilty Barca, Real, Inter Milan, AC, Marseille, Bayern, pick a game where you have no like or dislike towards either side, I watched Deportivo - Sevilla on Saturday, 3-3 draw, I could name about 4 players in total, know nothing about their managers, fans and in fact knew nothing about either teams recent form until I read a bit afterwards. It was good, I enjoyed watching it and got a hell of a lot more out of it than would from watching say Man Utd play Arsenal.

Oh and Depo play Getafe this Saturday at 5pm, while Sevilla are at home to Malaga - shame it kicks off at 4pm on Sunday as I reckon that will be a good one too. Rennes (4th) play PSG (2nd) on Saturday at 8, Lyon - Bordeaux is another where you'll see a fair few pretty decent players on show and 2 decent teams trying to play football. Obviously watching european leagues isnt for everyone and many will probably dismiss it as irrelevant tosh, I was of that mind a few years ago but not now.

Plenty of good out there, just not in the premier league as the only good thing there is, well us, obviously. IMO :)
