psl Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Kenny doesn't seem to rate him does he? Its a shame as I'd like to see him given a chance in a team which actually tries to play football. We don't have too many match winners and I think he's capable of adding goals and creativity. I think I'd go with Gerrard behind Torres, with Cole and Maxi either side of that against Stoke (assuming no major incomings).
Billy Dane Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 If Suarez comes in I can see Cole leaving fairly quickly perhaps even before the end of Jan.
Rimbeux Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 If Suarez comes in I can see Cole leaving fairly quickly perhaps even before the end of Jan. Need a buyer first, very difficult so I'm guessing loans might be the order of the day from the summer; I think we'll have to use him
psl Posted January 27, 2011 Author Posted January 27, 2011 No one else fancies giving him a few games then?
Rimbeux Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 West Ham? They might pay his wages for six months, not sure about 4 years or coming up with a fee considering they may well go down
McBain Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Ahead of Kuyt everyday of the week and twice on Sunday Harsh benching so far
johngibo YPC Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Ahead of Kuyt everyday of the week and twice on Sunday Harsh benching so far Its difficult to say though init. Something must be going on. They see him in training and that. People were saying this in the world cup. And at Chelsea last yearIts mad Shelvey is ahead of him for wide positions
McBain Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 It's difficult to say on Cole. Piss easy to say on Kuyt (I tend to stop calling players by their first name when they play s*** consistently. He's no longer Dirk to me) Agree on Shelvey. Kenny seems to have a bone on for him but i dont see it
Stew F Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Maybe its more the owners / Commoli cause he's clearly not 'moneyball' Seem strange he's still not starting after clearly impressing Kenny in the reserves last week
MarkD Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Ahead of Kuyt everyday of the week and twice on Sunday Harsh benching so far For all Kuyt's deficiencies, Cole has done nothing to suggest he'd be better...plus his fitness/availability record suggest twice on Sunday might be twice more than he could make
Kahnee Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Ahead of Kuyt everyday of the week and twice on Sunday Harsh benching so far Based on what?
WillG Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Ahead of Kuyt everyday of the week and twice on Sunday Harsh benching so far No way!! Cole's shown very little since arriving here and Dirk's a very intelligent player, massively underrated.
Eiler99 Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 (edited) When he isn't getting games ahead of Kuyt who's in woeful form, he really won't get many games at all, will he? The last few weeks would've been a good chance for him but he still hasn't been picked. I think he'll be moved on in the summer. Far to expensive to have on the bench week in week out. Red Yoda Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 looking at the squad as it sits at the minute ................ ...........................................reinajohnson..........carragher..........agger..........aureliokelly...................skrtel.................soto........koncheskey .............gerrard................lucas.............meireles.............shelvey..............poulsen..........jovanovic ...............kuyt....................torres.................maxi..........pacheco................n'gog..................cole i have listed above the squad in order of natural positions , not the position they are playing at the minute , this mainly refers to johnson . as far as i can see , kenny has quickly looked at a few players , settled on a team and unless someone has got injured , he has let it stay the same ........... now when kenny came in , cole had just picked up an injury and therefore , maxi has got in infront of cole and has worked hard and contributred well , if cole hadnt been injured , maybe it might be the other way round .
The_MC Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 I'm sure he'll get his chance if he trains well, especially with Kuyt and Maxi as our number one wide attackers. However you have to remember that we've only just started to play this attacking football which you would expect to suit his style. Even more importantly we've only just started to win games. Getting back a winning mentality and confidence is clearly one of Kenny's priorities for the team, and when confidence is being built hard workers like Kuyt are invaluable. You can't just flick a switch and all of a sudden we're playing a completely different style of football and the gradual (yet noticable) improvement in attacking play since Kenny took charge is evidence of that. Cole isn't exactly the most hardworking or consistent of players, something you definately need if you are fighting for victories. He also isn't much of a runner, and under Kenny i've noticed our wide attackers are being encouraged to pass and MOVE to get up and make themselves available in dangerous positions. Once the confidence of the team is higher and they are more used to how Kenny wants to play I expect he'll be given a chance to impress. Everyone knows he is a skillful player, but some hard work on fitness training wouldn't go unnoticed i expect.
ajit Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Maybe not working hard enough in trainng?Remember Mourinho saying with Cole we have 11 in attack and 10 on defense.
benno2 Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 None of this adds up. If we were looking to keep him long-term, surely he would be being given the odd cameo late on, at the very least. If only to keep him motivated and interested. Despite being under par in the games he's had, he hasn't gone to being totally useless overnight. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if there's a deal in place with someone like Spurs if we pick up Suarez & Adam. Otherwise I just don't get it.
Red Yoda Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 but but but hasn't Cole been injured?? yes mr cole was injured directly after kenny took charge , he has been fit enough to be in contention again for about the last week or so .
floyd the barber Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 well we`ve won 2 on the trop, so the fact cole hasnt played a part means kenny has made the right decision..Think its hard to fit cole, raul and gerrard into the same side..all offer a simialr type of game...Kuyt is in for his obvious work like talents, and even though hes been pretty s**** going forward his running around, closing down players cannot be underestimated.. Shelvey on the otherhand, well kenny likes him as do i.....hes obviously a talent, one of his passes against wolves was gerrard-esque., he also takes a great corner..and seems like a confident lad.He also has done well closing down openents when hes come on the pitch, dont think cole would offer that
McBain Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Based on what? Kuyt's inabillity to control or pass the football. Mostly
jimbolala Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 I am sure cole isn't happy about choosing us over spurs. Maybe we should bung Harry a few quid to take him or give him a chance!
carrafan Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 We need a strong squad. An injury to Maxi/Kuyt could well see Cole or Jovanovic in the starting lineup.
Epic Swindle Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Can understand why he's not starting but it's strange that he's not even being used as a sub. Maybe they want to keep the same shape with Shelvey in there but Cole is capable of keeping possession in the final third and opening teams up on the break.
