Nothing against the chap... But why when we were in such a mess financially did we sign him again???

Experienced cover for pepe, did know one consider he would be away for 6 weeks.

If a youngster was good enough to cover for this period surely they could have covered for the season.

Any injury could have been covered by one of those special transferres they allow you in an emergency like when we have used before.

lack of competence on the managers part, not suprising given he put shoes on first and then put socks on, call it he legacy of Roy chuffing Hodgson, should he be given time to sort this mess out?

I'm guessing "He who shall not be mentioned" and Purslow and co not being able to read/comprehend/interpret the ruling on foreign/local players.

You only have to look at the forum to see how much confusion it caused - Kev constantly going on about needing 8 homegrown players, for instance, despite being told several times his interpretation was incorrect.

I really think that's nonsense, I know it seems to have almost become forum lore, but I'm not buying it at all. I do think there may have been a sense of 'A reserve keeper, as senior squad member, is hardly ever going to play, so would be a complete waste of a non-homegrown spot' . In time, hopefully, one of the kids coming through will replace him, but as they are all still kids, it made sense to have an over 21 homegrown backup.

We had limited funds to spend. It was an absolute waste of money.

especially when you consider the asia cup, is he even playing in it? or has he just swapped sitting on the bench in english winter for sitting on the bench in the sun?

We're really digging the depths to find something to complain about now aren't we?

Can we let stupid decisions made by people who are no longer at the club be in the past?

Not really. Its relevant as he's currently a Liverpool player

It's relevant if you want to hit him with a stick for signing for a club that he supports.

Yeah, let's keep complaining about it.

The irony in all this is that you are actually by far the biggest whinger on here.

Yeah, let's keep complaining about it.

One person called him mediocre. People are stating that it was a waste of money based on his ability and the fact that he misses a chunk of season. £2.5 million that may have been used to buy a better left back or even a striker. Noone's giving him a hard time, unless you can see posts that I cant

In reality the signing cost us over 5 mil. We let cavalieri go for free, who was actually on demand.

Pfk cost 10mil if you account for no fee for insua, giving away ldv and actual fee paid

Poorson cost his fee plus the loss on Aquilani who was shipped at a prearranged loss

Joe Cole was signed 3 weeks after Roy with his blessing.

Carra had his new contract signing approved by Roy.

Ice said this before but it seems to get brushed over. Despite him being here for just 6 months, the damage he caused will be felt for a long time but financially and footballwise.

£2.5m.

Why? Could the youngsters not have filled in - especially considering he was to be missing a large chunk of the season anyway...? If the youngsters are too inexperienced, could we not have picked someone up on a free? I don't recall now, but there were a couple of keepers going around for free last summer out of contract. Could we not have picked up another keeper - not homegrown - cheaper?

Again, £2.5m.

but we signed a LB, it just didnt work out.

and id love to see who youd sign for 2.5M as a striker and would be of sufficient quality. Jones wasnt inspired, but those reasons you give are equally daft.

Nothing against the fella at all, I'm sure he is a lovely lad and good luck to him whilst he is here, I enjoyed his hilarious eagerness to please in the Northampton shootout where he bounced around on the line and treid to rev the crowd up like some cross between Dudek, Grobelaar and that thing from the Magic Roundabout. I didn't take quite as much pleasure from his failure to keep anything out but hey-ho.

All the same, at a time when we still don;t appear to be exactly flush and, if reports are to be believed, are about 5m away from Ajax's valuation of Suarez, people are bound to get a bit frustrated about recently arrived players who we didn;t need and haven't added anything. I know it isn't as simple as saying 'If we hadn't bought him then Suarez would be here now' (maybe we could afford the fee Ajax want but just don't value him at that much) but it is harldy surprising that, during a transfer window in which we have yet to conclude any business, people will get frustrated at such pointless buys.

We didnt need to buy a left back. The last manager didnt rate Insua and we ended up with a player who is worse than him. Most on here thought that it wasnt a big improvement on Insua

The £2.5 million could have gone towards a loan deal for a striker. So its not daft, there are plenty of ways we could have utilised the money in a better way

That Rondon at Malaga looks really good, they signed him for 3.5m euros, only 21 too. Its not impossible.

Regardless, it was a stupid signing.
