So the overwhelming nature of the 5-0 Clasico defeat was far from being entirely his fault. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/tables/_/league/esp.1/season/2009/spanish-primera-division?cc=5901
honourablegeorge Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Larf. The Real squad was inadequate?
Hassony Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 How is this story related to the liverpool forum anyway?
fred milne Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Even if Mourinho were to leave this summer, I can't see Rafa being approached after the 18 months he's had at Liverpool and Inter. Also, if memory serves, he and Valdano don't get along too well.
anfield11 Posted January 21, 2011 Author Posted January 21, 2011 How is this story related to the liverpool forum anyway? It isn't but everyone would have ignored it in the General.....not that they aren't here either. Anyway, a distraction from going insane over transfers!
Redray Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 So continuing with the going off on a tangent theme; Eto'o hints Inter Milan locker room undermined BenitezInter Milan ace Samuel Eto'o has hinted Rafa Benitez was undermined by a locker room element during his time in charge. Many of the players have criticised Benitez in public and suggested there was not the same sense of unity that has been rediscovered under Leonardo. Eto'o said: “I do not agree with this way of seeing things. Up until the game with Juventus, we had played well. “There are some things that happen in the locker room that I’ll keep to myself. I thank Benitez, as he helped us to win two Cups and I thank him for what he did for us.”

DonRafa Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 How is this story related to the liverpool forum anyway? Former LFC manager? Should we not mention Shankly, Uncle Bob, either? Just don't understand this kind of attitude, it stinks imo, the kind of shyte bitters would spout Anyway, here's Rafa in Old Hall Street, looking happy to be back home
Davvo Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Always liked that Eto'o lad It's one reason why following Mourinho is a bad idea. He gets so far up the players in his squad, that you're better off waiting til someone's replaced him, and been quickly sacked off, before you go into a club he's left. Chelsea was the same. He's great at building a team spirit, but when he leaves he tears it down, and you can never tell when he's going to decide he wants a new project. Madrid would be wise to get shut before he gets his feet under the table if you ask me. If he left now, following him could be seen as a good move, before he's got comfortable, Rafa could turn Madrid into a side capable of beating Barca.
épieur Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 I am really not understanding this 'scorched earth' perception of Mourinho. What exactly is it he is supposed to be doing that so undermines the efforts of his successors? The only thing I can see that fits the bill is him being highly successful and really good at his job and then leaving the club in the hands of someone not quite as good. Scorched earth indeed. If Rafa couldn't get the dressing room behind him, he is the one with a problem. Not Mourinho. I doubt he has been sending txts to his former players about what a bad man Rafa is. That Rafa hasn't excelled in man management at Inter would hardly be shocking news. I'm not sure how Mourinho could be blamed for this when all he did was being great at it. By the same token, we should be blaming Rafa being being so good at tactics. It in in fact not Hodgson's fault that he was so limited in this regard. But Rafa's, since he made the players used to following good ones instead of lame tactics. Hodgson would have been a greater success if only we had brought in someone like Glenn Roeder first, who is much worse. When Roy then comes in and look positively inspired with his tactics, the players will be much more inclined to follow them with a passion.

I don't think you could have much experience in team's of any description if you don't follow this to be honest. Mourinho creates the kind of atmosphere that his team are devastated when he leaves. If the new guy is not a big improvement personality wise, then he has no chance of winning them over. I also don't put it past Mourinho texting his former players to say they wont like Rafa etc etc. Edited January 21, 2011 by Davvo
Elm0 Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Rafa \o/ He should be top of our list in the summer.

I just wanna kiss his face.
DazzlaJ Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Rafa \o/ He should be top of our list in the summer. Correct
Flanders Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 (edited) How is this story related to the liverpool forum anyway? Former LFC manager? Should we not mention Shankly, Uncle Bob, either? The point being that there is no mention of Rafa or anything to do with LFC in the article, it's about Mourinho. Rafa \o/ He should be top of our list in the summer. Hopefully we won't need a list Edited January 22, 2011 by Flanders

Hassony Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Sorry! So used to reading cr@p about the man, attack is my auto response no problem I do exactly the same
aka Dus Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Rafa been turned on to the skinny jeans in Milan? Defo shouldn't have taken that job....
Ramón Benítez Hernández Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 (edited) Materazzi "Leonardo is an intelligent person who has brought back the smile and the desire to play football," said Materazzi. "I speak of those who have returned with a smile, the same who previously had been left out. "In life, you also make mistakes: we are a Formula One car, but there must be a pilot. If you put a policeman there, things do not work ..." So they wanted a cheer leader, not a tactician. I don't think Rafa would do well at City or Real Madrid either. Bailo Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Wasn't the allegation that Mourinho was indeed texting players saying what a nasty man Rafa was?
Montse Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Apparently Rafa is doing an interview on 5 live at noonish about his legacy - worth alisten me thinks
meredithmathieson Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Somebody on Twitter has posted that he sounds a bit defensive in the radio interview. I hope not. I hope he comes out all guns blazing (legally binding contracts permitting)!
