Red Kent Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 We're going down unless we spend massively on a few hard cases in midfield. Even Kenny cannot turn pansies into hardcases, or even players who wont shirk a 50-50. Maybe Kuyt wont shirk a 50-50, but he is too slow and a 50-50 suddenly becomes a 70-30. Over the last few years we've bought to many f***in namby pamby's for midfield who cry off the moment it gets tough. Please feel free to call me a ticko, but when Everton stuff us on Sunday as they run the midfield you will see where I am coming from.
Falconhoof Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 You aren't thinking straight Kev. Its good footballers we need. strong yes, but good passers, good feet, intelligent, balanced...you know ? proper football players like we used to have. Its the midfield, we've sold the good ones and bought s**** because of hicks and gillet. you think kenny won't know ? he knows.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 (edited) Sorry Kev, my knee is not jerking. Give Kenny time on the training ground, he has been manager for 5 days and already the performances have improved. Edited January 13, 2011 by Rory Fitzgerald
Red Kent Posted January 13, 2011 Author Posted January 13, 2011 I am sick of seeing our midfield game after game after game being out played and out fought, and the reason they are being out played is because they are out fought. Blackpool players tonight waltzed passed our midfield like their shirts were covered in butter.

Give Kenny time on the training ground, he has been manager for 5 days and already the performances have improved. That maybe so Rory, but the simple fact is he cannot turn Lucas into a ball winning midfielder, nor Meireles nor Poulson, nor Jovanovic nor Kuyt nor Cole nor Babel, so who is left ???? Our midfield is full of tarts who have not got the stomach to fight. Edited January 13, 2011 by Kev

Ramón Benítez Hernández Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 We miss Masch like we missed Xabi last season. We've gone further backwards. Thank you G&H, Roy and Purslow for giving us Poulsen in Masch's place.
cocknose Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Just because Lucas isnt as s*** as he used to be, he is still s***
Hodgson for Chelsea Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 They bossed the midfield, so I see what you are saying. Poulsen looked like he knew the right pass, but his execution was poor. I'd have had Raul and Lucas in the middle, maybe we'll do that on the weekend? When is Stevie back?
épieur Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Alonso left and our team coherence went away. Then Mascherano left and now teams are dominating our midfield as well. There is a gaping hole left in our midfield and it really is no surprise that we are so lacking in what they gave to us when our replacements are Meireless and Poulsen. Meireless is a decent enough player to have, but if we want to have pretentions of being a top 4 again, we need players visibly better ahead of him in the pecking order.
Cheesecake Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 (edited) just gotta believe, hang on for a bit the day is coming soon.... Edited January 13, 2011 by DPD1973
Ramón Benítez Hernández Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 This thing reminds me of Masch at his best. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c81bcjyfn6U
Smith Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Just because Lucas isnt as s*** as he used to be, he is still s***Needs pointing out.
richwilks Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Lucas was good last night but was massively let down by the s*** around him. Merieles is going backwards at an alarming rate, Poulsen isn't good enough at pressing, tackling or passing and was a ridiculous inclusion and Kuyt is not the player he was under Rafa. One of our best and most creative players was on the bench. Liked the formation yesterday but the players we had couldn't play the formation. Pacheco needs integrating onto the first team asap, he may or may not be the answer but he is creative.
Stevie H Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 sign hardcases not pansies. the graeme souness recruitment strategy.
blago Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Just because Lucas isnt as s*** as he used to be, he is still s*** He's far from s*** and he would benefit from having better players alongside him. Last night Meireles was off form, Poulson was playing and Kuyt was crap also.
richwilks Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 The joke is that we do have the players to make last nights formation work, just that they are out and about on loan or unavailable.. -------------------------------Reina Johnson/Kelly - Skrtel/Carra - Agger - Insua -------------------------------Lucas -------------------Gerrard -------- Aquilani Maxi/Kuyt ----------------------------------Pacheco/Babel -------------------------------Torres Get an improvement on Insua, a top centre back and two quick/skilful attacking wingers/forwards to go either side of Torres and that's as good as we need.
honourablegeorge Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 *take deep breath* I think Kev is right. Knee jerking and panicking and all the rest, but right. We need at least one decent central midfielder.
Dan Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 *take deep breath* I think Kev is right. Knee jerking and panicking and all the rest, but right. We need at least one decent central midfielder. Undoubtedly. But he needs to be a footballer first not a f***ing cage fighter.
Hassony Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 He's far from s*** and he would benefit from having better players alongside him. aye, chelsea would improve lots if they had him in midfield instead of the awful Obi Mikel *take deep breath* I think Kev is right. Knee jerking and panicking and all the rest, but right. We need at least one decent central midfielder. and one boss centre back
honourablegeorge Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Undoubtedly. But he needs to be a footballer first not a f***ing cage fighter. Agreed. We need some real class in midfield, is what I'm saying. A certain bearded, Spanish, sword-carrying gemtleman, for instance. Not calling for a clogger, just for quality. And I think it's as much a priority as centre half or winger or striker.
