Spirit Of Shankly Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Please find a statement from the Union regarding the current situation following recent events at http://www.spiritofshankly.com/news/Statement-on-current-situation.html Spirit Of Shankly
Swan Red Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 I know it may be considered outside your remit but how about a show of support for the new manager?
aka Dus Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 I remember when there was endless bickering about the PR savvy of SOS. May I be so bold to say they have been note perfect in recent times, particularly since the end of H&G.
PeeG Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 I know it may be considered outside your remit but how about a show of support for the new manager? As you said it is not in our remit.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 (edited) It's a strange release. Had the last line not been included then it would have come across as a cold analytical statement devoid of the euphoria being felt today. However, by ending the statement the way it did, there was some heat and passion - so its strange that Kenny and Dalglish were 2 words that were not included. Edit Just seen response above about not being in remit Edited January 8, 2011 by Rory Fitzgerald
aka Dus Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 It's a strange release. Had the last line not been included then it would have come across as a cold analytical statement devoid of the euphoria being felt today. However, by ending the statement the way it did, there was some heat and passion - so its strange that Kenny and Dalglish were 2 words that were not included. They made a statement a few weeks ago saying something along the lines of this being a new era (FSG), trust needs to be rebuilt and if it is, then we will support and trust the board to let them manage, quietly efficiently and behind closed doors. I think that's the only way to go and I think SOS are spot on with their approach.
Swan Red Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 As you said it is not in our remit. maybe it should be, maybe the appointment of a manager who captures the spirit of Shankly should be worthy of comment this is not to be critical by the way I applaud a huge amount of what you've done but I think allowing the emotion of football fandom to intervene at the expense of pure professionalism isn't a bad thing

Next manager comes in and it will be you offered support to Kenny but not to XXXX and so on. I know Dalglish is a different level to anyone else, but important to remain as consistent as we can with these things.
Swan Red Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Yeah I understand your position despite the fact I don't agree. I think it's perfectly acceptable to laud the appointment, because of what he represents because of how he supported us when we needed support that we should be able to overtly express our support for him
Epic Swindle Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 (edited) Think it's fair enough to be honest. No commitment to anyone or anything other than the club. Kenny doesn't need SOS to tell the fans how loved and welcome he is. Edited January 8, 2011 by Epic Swindle
Elm0 Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Did they ever downplay Roy's position or did they stay out of it?
Swan Red Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 what is then the "Spirit of Shankly" and I don't mean the organisation that served the interests of LFC fans admirably but what does that spirit actually mean?
Kahnee Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Is it just me who finds the line "Bring on yer Manchester United...." slightly jarring? Everything else is worded in a professional way, in keeping with an organisation trying to sit alongside an American corporation, but that seems to get spoilt by the final words And what do you mean "as supporters with a vested interest"?
PeeG Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Did they ever downplay Roy's position or did they stay out of it? We stayed out of it. Is it just me who finds the line "Bring on yer Manchester United...." slightly jarring? Everything else is worded in a professional way, in keeping with an organisation trying to sit alongside an American corporation, but that seems to get spoilt by the final words And what do you mean "as supporters with a vested interest"? Wanting to see the club do well, but seeing the club do well is what we as supporters want. Bring on yer Manchester United line was put in essentially to finish on a positive note to it and not to try and dampen any feelings from today which being without it might have done in some people's eyes.
