He's not bored as such, his hands are tied. If he wants to keep having a team in the CL, he cant afford the 100k a week each bench they've been used to. They are gambling that the fortunes spent gathering youth team players will see them breaking even in the next three years and staying competitive.

What sort of state would Chelsea be in Rimbeux if they finished outside the CL and RA dumped them? Bankrupt within months? Their wage bill as a pc of turnover must be huge.

Abramovich can afford anything

Yeah, but those plastic flags must set him back a bit though

There is some talk of a trust fund to cushion them should he sell up or expire or something, but that might be what he has effectively done in writing off the £350m he has put in. Even so here is a club that costs £250m(£160m in wages) a year to run and brings in £190m. They have been undergoing a savage purge on costs this year including letting Cole, Deco, Ballack, Balletti and Carvalho (£20m plus in wages just for them) go so the gap may come down, and they could sell naming rights.

CL would be a huge blow, but I think they'd survive and could still be competitive if they say managed to get the likes of Anelka and Drogba away for good money and replaced them with up and coming players on a fraction of the wages, stopped sacking managers, and as has already happened, reduce transfer spending.
