I'm on record as saying (as if anyone keeps a record of what I say) that it's an important step and should make things better. However i was thinking and my viewpoint is biased as I support a massive club which potentially has huge income streams.

Maybe this will make it harder for other teams to smash into the top as they will not be able get sugar daddies. I know that it isn't ideal to just look for a benefactor with loads of cash. This may actually close up the the dining table for the top clubs

As I keep saying... it'll matter not one bit. Citeh & Chelsea will suddenly get £100m per year sponsorship deals from Mansoor & Abramovich-linked companies. They'll be selling dross squad players off to Abu Dhabi & Russian clubs for £30m a pop. They'll do a summer tour of their countries and get paid £20m. All it'll do is make the money laundering seem even more obvious.

apparently stuff like sponsorship deals are closely vetted to make sure they are not dodgy

Unpolice-able. It'll be run along the same foolish and/or corrupt lines as the 'Fit and Proper' test or the awarding of World Cups.

I think Platini is quite serious about getting this to work. Hopefully he'll do some good for once. Its his clubs that are suffering after all. Juventus and French teams getting outspent by debt ridden Spanish and English clubs. When was the last time either did well in Europe? 2004?

You should get on the blower to Abramovich and Moratti, they seem to be taking it plenty serious. You should also read the regs. UEFA do seem to have a better record on regulation and probity than the PL, our FA or FIFA, so we'll see what wins out.

Here's a decent article on it, directly related to City

Independent October 10

On sammy's point about it biasing the game in favour of already established big clubs, that's true, but we are no longer talking about a Steve Gibson or Jack Walker, we are dealing with superhuman wealth that is inflating and corrupting the market to unsustainable levels with an arms race that promotes a debt and spending culture that will take clubs to the brink of existence and generally f*** up the game. It's already becoming a received wisdom that a club cannot compete at the highest level without a billionaire owner or spending eye-watering amounts.

This move, especially if it follows other UEFA initiatives and is implemented in the leagues as well as UEFA competition should move the emphasis back onto youth development and coaching and away from an obsession with accumulating vast squads on vast wages.

BBC

Scudamore not anticipating many problems complying. Seems to be taking a position of working towards it, but lobbying a case by case basis when it comes to the obvious problem clubs not making the grade, essentially daring UEFA to ban clubs and betting that they wont.

He is there to represent the interests of the PL owners, even if that means supporting unsustainable and inflationary practices. From the way he was talking, there are a majority of clubs for it, namely the bigger established clubs and the smaller clubs, with those in the middle and batting above their attendances, like Fulham, Bolton and Wigan being most concerned.
