Who do you choose? Presumably the WC win will push it in Xavi's favour but it's hard to argue against Messi.

Sneijder must be considered unlucky not to be shortlisted.

Joke selection to include Iniesta and Xavi but no Sneijder. Iniesta especially was below his usual standards this year and didn't even play all that well in the WC. Seems scoring the winning goal in the final will get you an automatic selection in this award!

Xavi is underrated by some (not saying on here - just generally - there was an absurd Daily Mail article last year about the Fifa player of the year ceremony and it was titled "The best players of the world (and Xavi)." f***wits.

 

He's a positive attacking player who doesn't just rely on sideways / backwards passing and he's got a phenomenal pass completion rate... 90% in the CL final against the Mancs, around 90% throughout the World Cup, and in Barca's match against Real Madrid last month he didn't misplace a single pass and had more than 100 completed passes - which is freakishly good and amounts to around two completed passes a minute while the ball is in play.

 

But then there's Messi, who is averaging a goal a game for Barca over the last two seasons which is even more freakish and ought to win any award going...

Agreed.

 

You can tell from everything the Barca players say about Messi that they are completely in awe of him. Even Xavi refused to compare Messi to any other player because that player would come out of the comparison so badly.
