baja the hut Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 Why wasn't carra played right back? Was it all Hodgson's doing? Not to slight the man, but i see i distinct change in the tactics.
Falconhoof Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 I'm preparing myself for the strange mixture of emotions that would be set in motion if I were to believe Roy had masterminded the recent performances, particularly today.Made up with the wins, didn't think Roy had it in him.
CarraLegend Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 I take it this is sarcasm? Carra didnt play at right back because we had Agger, Johnson and the Greek out so Kelly had to play. Of course it was the manager, it was exactly the same as we've been playing all season, just a lot better today than most other days.
libero Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 Why wasn't carra played right back? Was it all Hodgson's doing? Not to slight the man, but i see i distinct change in the tactics. Oh ffs, give Roy a bit of credit where credit is due.Jeez
RazorUK Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 How about we just enjoy the win today? I'm not a fan of Hodgson, but that was the first game this season I've actually enjoyed watching. Credit where credit is due. Superb first half performance and a solid if unspectacular second half where we sat too deep again.
Dan Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 Poulsen seems to have been binned though. Was amazed shelvey got on instead.
baja the hut Posted November 7, 2010 Author Posted November 7, 2010 Oh ffs, give Roy a bit of credit where credit is due.Jeez Ok will do, mind you i have commented or posted in years, so haven't ever dissed Roy. If it was him, fair play, I didn't know Soto was out.

Not to slight the man, but i see i distinct change in the tactics. 1 Big question, nothing whatsoever, convinced of that. Clue is in the job title and what JWH says he's here for. 2 Johnson and Soto unavailable. 3 Hodgson and the players. Personally skeptical about Kuyt behind Torres, but the ball he played completely vindicated the move.
Chili Palmer Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 I thought we wer fantastic today, all credit goes to the players and the manager as always. I really want to give RH all the praise in the world but then I hear him talk. anyway, not for today. Brilliant win.

Shouldn't be. The general opinion is that the way he sets up is counter productive to getting the right results or the best out of the players. That shouldn't mean it's sure to lose matches, more like not win enough to instill enough confidence to keep playing well and winning with those instructions.
Redray Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 Why wasn't carra played right back? Was it all Hodgson's doing? Not to slight the man, but i see i distinct change in the tactics. Pressing, attacking, creating, no Poulsening. In the unlikely event that it is down to him then fair play to him.
Redray Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 He doesnt have any first team input surely? God forbid.
Flanders Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 (edited) Poulsen seems to have been binned though. Was amazed shelvey got on instead.Poulsen has clearly gone into a steep decline. As an experienced body he was an 'ok' option considering we were clearly going to be losing Macherano but perhaps couldn't go for a higher profile player like Meireles, until we knew how much we'd get for JM. Now that it is clear just how s*** he is becoming, and he wasn't always this bad, he has been relegated. Perhaps also, Shelvey is coming on quicker than anticipated? growler Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 I heard a rumour that Meireles was agreed in principle before Roy even started with us, based on Masch leaving.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 I heard a rumour that Meireles was agreed in principle before Roy even started with us, based on Masch leaving. Sounds like more than a rumour.
Billy Dane Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 I heard a rumour that Meireles was agreed in principle before Roy even started with us, based on Masch leaving. As Roy admitted he didn't know what Raul's best position was, I don't think there is much doubt this is true.
_00_deathscar Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 I heard a rumour that Meireles was agreed in principle before Roy even started with us, based on Masch leaving. I'm playing FM09 and one of the first recommendations Macia makes is Raul Meireles.
David Hodgson Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 I heard a rumour that Meireles was agreed in principle before Roy even started with us, based on Masch leaving. Except Meireles spoke about how important RH was in his joining, and that he persuaded him.
benno2 Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 Except Meireles spoke about how important RH was in his joining, and that he persuaded him. That doesn't necessarily rule out the former, does it? If he had been lined up under one managerial regime and then that changes, then as the player concerned, I would want to speak to the new manager and would need a little bit of persuading that this was still the right move for me.
Frosty Jack Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 Jones, Konchesky, Poulsen were Roys signings. From what we know and what was said back then, the rest were planned in January.
benno2 Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 Jones, Konchesky, Poulsen were Roys signings. From what we know and what was said back then, the rest were planned in January. It looks that way. But for Meireles to feel the need to be persuaded by Roy would hint that the deal was not done, even if it had been lined-up. Therefore Roy had his hand in this and could presumably have said 'no, I want player x instead'. Therefore, at the very least it had Roy's blessing and was his decision in the end.
Stevie Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 Except Meireles spoke about how important RH was in his joining, and that he persuaded him. That's quite laughable when Hodgson didn't even know where to play Meireles.
