Napoli fans (calling Bologna to thread)

having had the misfortune to have been in Naples 2 weeks ago, I can confirm that it is indeed the sewer of Italy

there has been some civil unrest for a while there and the incidents involving our supporters getting stabbed ended up in a riot that was still going on after we'd all long since left

but anyway what's their beef with us? we've got on well with Milan, Inter and Fiorentina so what do these f***ing upstarts have against us?

I thought the kids on mopeds brigade would have stayed home but they were a horrible lot that showed up last night

on the plus side, I saw some well researched banners on the Kop, copied from the Italian versions and designed to call in to question the hygene of the Naples fans and also indicating that they live in dustbins, or at the very least, that their rubbish piles up on their streets (which it does)

so perhaps my mate Bologna can comment, having lived in Italy these past decades, or anyone else with insight or wild guesses

Loads of them in the Centenary, how did they get tickets? Surely you have to have a fancard?

f***ing loads hanging around the turnstiles at 8ish, and the police were moving a massive group from outside the Main Stand to Anfield Road when I was running into the ground, don't know where they were going.

They do get an allocation in the upper cenny

All the ones in the main stand were from a tour operator apparantly

Oh really? How does that work? They were quite spread about around me, but there was a group of about 20 sat together, in amongst us lot. Don't really see how thats helpful given the history.

The Upper Cenny?

Every home champions league game the away team gets a block in the middle. Its something to do with Uefa regulations but i have no idea why it needs to be the case

But if they were spread about then they are probably other tickets they have got hold of

They're just pricks and always have been. f*** them and their s*** club.

I'm sure some of them are. But you can't label every single fan of a club the same. There are even one or two worthwhile human beings that are Manchester United fans in the world, for instance.

I am just surprised nothing has been done about the Italians by UEFA before now, over the last 5-10 years almost every story of football hooliganism has come from Italy. Don't think a one year ban from European competition would that lot any harm at all but, I suppose UEFA will just wait until something really serious happens.

exactly right

but the main problem is the police - they either cause trouble like in Rome or recklessly endanger the oppo fans like in Naples

Are the ones in the upper kemlyn comps or corporate? I have had a few of them on aways and pure reds get hold of them, there was a big block of about 50 all together at inter.

so nobody knows

they were sound when we were last there in 1990, and that was to watch England, of all things

That's why I was surprised they greeted us how they did in Naples. I thought there'd be some solidarity from the downtrodden Neapolitans to their downtrodden scouse counterparts. They see themselves as a separate entity from the rest of Italy just as many Liverpudlians see themselves as separate from the rest of the UK. Naples is one of the poorest cities in Italy just as Liverpool was in th UK in the 70s and 80s.

As to an explanation well that's more difficult. Part of the reason is undoubtedly that the further south you go in Italy the more "Italian" the poeple become. By that I mean disrespect for the law, inability to follow simple instructions, rules and regulations. Just watch how the driving worsens as you move southwards down the peninsula. Then Naples for me is the empitome of Italianess. Following of rules is an optional. Therefore comparing Milan and Florence with Rome and Naples is a bit of a red herring.

I'm surprised they kicked off in Liverpool because usually when Italian teams come to England the fans are s***-scared of the UK authorites because we actually enforce reasonably stiff penalties on offenders. I remember asking a Milan fan in Athens how come it didn't kick off between Juve and Milan in Manchester for the 2003 Champions League Final. His respnse was simple "you go to jail there if you get nicked". Indeed the "English model" is lauded in Italy as the way to tackle football hooliganism.

There's always been away fans in the upper tier of the CS on European nights.
