Rory Fitzgerald Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 Is it a coincidence that we have scored our away goals this season when Ngog has come on to join Torres upfront ? Utd we got 2 and today we got 1. I think our playing style is not suited to playing lots of nice football so when we have 2 upfront with our quick style of getting the ball upfront then its much better. It seems that both thrive when they have someone beside them helping to make the runs off the ball - might be worth a try.
Epic Swindle Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 (edited) Cole is probably out for a couple of weeks so we might have to throw Ngog in anyway, although Kuyt might be back. He's also decent coming from a wider position. Edited October 31, 2010 by Epic Swindle
Red Kent Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 Cole is probably out for a couple of weeks so we might have to throw him in, though Kuyt might be back. He's also decent coming from a wider position. Easy then, move Maxi to left and Kuyt on the right. Johnson at right back and move Carra to middle and Greek to bench. [That's what Roy will do anyway.]
digs_nz Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 If we are going to play a 4-4-2 I just don't understand why Gerrard isn't out right, given Meireles and Lucas are playing well together in the middle, and Gerrard has played out there before!! f***ing madness imo. Thought N'Gog played quite well though, and proved me wrong when I was unhappy with the tactics of the sub.

Big Red Machine Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 Going 4-4-2 against Chelsea would be madness imo.
Red Kent Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 Going 4-4-2 against Chelsea would be madness imo. Agree we need to go 10-1
CarraLegend Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 Chelsea are s****, on and off the pitch. Less av it!! If Roy manages a win there I might go from hating him to just disliking him.

I think he loves Kuyt, though, so he might thrust him straight back in. I can't see Johnson getting his place back after a clean sheet.

Disagree with you there the game was crying for ngog to come on and take some of the burden off nando. Infact with ngog up there it changed our impetus and we started to get behind them more often. One wonders if the relatively poor cole would have played the whole game if it didn't lead to him getting injured - woy wouldn't have put ngog on then at all and would have made any change when it was too late

Away from home they look soft and bullyable, wether we have the right players or tactic's to take advantage of this time will tell but we certainty shouldn't hold any fear playing them.
madaboutlfc Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 I think if anyone deserves to be dropped it should be konchesky.. Carra at LB would be better than what Konchesky can ever dream of doing and to be honest greek and skrtle have done nowt to deserve to be dropped
Hodgson for Chelsea Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 Only way to beat them is Houllier tactics - stifle them and grab a goal Then defend as if your life depends on it 4-5-1 with Lucas holding and stifling their attack from deep
_00_deathscar Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Agree we need to go 10-1 Is that the prediction for the final score? Bit optimistic with the '1'.
Montse Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 I am seriously worried about Torres lack of pace at the mo there were several times yesterday when i thought he would let rip but never got out of 3rd gear. Is it the injuries, attitude, training methods or what but I hope we see the old nando back soon
Leo No.8 Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 To be fair, N'Gog looked far the sharper of him and Torres when he came on. He looks to be getting stronger and held the ball up really well in the face of some physical defending. He took some attention away from Torres with his movement as well which allowed Fernando more space and he ultimately set up the winner. Definitely think there is some potential there if N'Gog continues to improve the way he is. If he can perform that role of showing for the ball, getting it into feet and holding it up allowing Torres to play more on the last man and spend less time being buffeted around in deep positions then it could really work. The key to our improvement yesterday in the latter stages of the game IMO was us moving the ball much more quickly forwards (on the ground) from the central midfield area to the forwards, with Lucas, Gerrard and Merieles all looking to be positve all the time. The build up was less laboured than it has been in about twelve months, so we need to learn from that and play that way much more often. Positive team selection, positive passing = wins.
fred milne Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 (edited) I doubt it'll ever happen but if we going to play two up front then I'd like to see Torres and Babel given a try. Edited November 1, 2010 by fred milne

Chili Palmer Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Konchesky played well yesterday. I'd drop carra and play Johnson at RB and keep Konchesky at LB I would be really disappointed if we broke up the Skrtel/Greek partnership as it looks our best atm. Carra won't be dropped so if Johnson is fit to come back LB is the only position left for him. I thought Konchesky started well yesterday then after about 30 reverted to type.
Bo Benn Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Don't think it is so much a formation issue as it is a personnel issue. If N'Gog is the best replacement in terms of ability to Cole then I don't have a problem with a 442 formation against Chelsea, or any team for that matter. Despite Gerrard and Torres looking quite s*** yesterday I would still rather have their old partnership restored vs Chelsea in these circumstances. Hugo and Lucas can play CM. Anyone in the loop on Kuyt and Johnson these days? How long before we see them back?
johngibo YPC Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 I thought Konchesky started well yesterday then after about 30 reverted to type. He put in one great cross, but got absolutely skinned for his bookingI'm not as negative on him as some. he's just not that good. I worry about 4-4-2 because we don't have any wingersI'd rather it was an option we reverted to to be honest
Flasher Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Konchesky played well yesterday. I'd drop carra and play Johnson at RB and keep Konchesky at LB Just reminded me of how Alan Green ripped Knchesky a new a****** on the radio yestrerday - was quite funny actually. He sounded disgusted that Hodgson bought him, and described his first touch as no better than that of a hammer thrower. Fecking odd piece of reporting that. Anyway, I've watched the game since and thought his distribution was very poor also. A good ball for Cole in the first half and got stuck in, but he was poor otherwise. I agree about dropping Carra though. When Johson returns, The Greek desrves his place still and Skrtel is more mobile than Carra at the moment.
Tobes Rafa Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 I doubt it'll ever happen but if we going to play two up front then I'd like to see Torres and Babel given a try. Why? Babel has proven time and time again that he is awful and that is being polite.

Did he admit that Lucas had a good game? somehow I doubt it
