Forrest Gump really happened

I've been given a WWI medal group to value for auction and researching it, the guy sounds like Forrest Gump

An Australian brought up by foster parents, arrived in Gallipoli in 1915. Shot in the buttocks, went down with appendicitis and was shipped of to hospital in Egypt. Onto Northern Europe where he fought at Lagincourt and Westhoek on the Western Front. More buttock injuries ( from enemy fire and burns from the large gun shells ). NCO was killed, leaving him in charge. He dug three colleagues out from a landslide and carried them to safety. Returned for an injured officer and rescued him. Went back to his gun to make sure all rounds were fired and that the sub section suffered no further losses. Then extinguished a fire in a gun pit.

Awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal and the Military Medal.

Granddaughter does not want them as " they'll only gather dust "
