Leo No.8 Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 This lad is a proper talent - can see the Gerrard comparisons, fairly tall and lanky with what you'd might consider a slightly awkward gait but technically special and looks to have superb passing and vision. Its not just last night, every time he's played so far whether its in Carra's testimonial, as a sub in the disasterous game against Northampton or pre season freindlies he's stood out a mile. Physically he's ready, it seems mentally he's ready as he's a confident lad. Hope to see him involved significantly more now; him, Pacheco and Kelly could be not only the future of our team, but the fairly imminent future. NESV placed a lot of emphasis on youth development at the Red Sox and I hope they drive this at Liverpool from the top, because we have an incredibly talented group of youngsters at the moment who could save us tens of millions in the transfer market going forward.
Elm0 Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Shelvey looks promising, but its hard to tell at this stage I suppose. Can anyone refresh my memory? How old was Gerrard before he truly began to be "the man" in the team?
Lee W Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 He fits well into the current trend for signing vulcans.

Chili Palmer Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 (edited) What, no Shelvey?! In a Shelvey thread?! I'm bald-ist. Shevely is the hairy Shelvey Edited October 22, 2010 by Chili Palmer
floyd Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 In January, RFH will be using Jonjo and Suso to snare Clint Dempesy
Swipe Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 I'd have him ahead of that c*** Poulsen. Then again i'd have Stephen Hawking ahead of Poulsen.
disco_volante Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 In January, RFH will be using Jonjo and Suso to snare Clint Dempesy Come on be serious! It's more likely to Jonjo, Suso, Pacheco + 5.5m for Hayden Mullins.
Ibby Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 he looks like a real cracking player and just did not at all look out of place on that pitch against that oppo. He goes ahead of lucas and that c*nt poulsen imo and should be played as much as possible. Its funny you mention gerrard Leo i said exactly the same last night, just the way he passes the ball and runs with it there are striking similarities.
Spion kop Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 confident and calm on the ball and also has ambition as shown by his attempt to lob the keeper from the half way line. looks like he could develop.

DecidedByPoll Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 I'm not convinced Kelly will really make it, he's got the raw materials but I thought he was sloppy at times last night and I do think he falls out of position too easily. I'll hang fire on SHelvey for now, he's obviously talented and a lovely passer of the ball. however, I do wonder if he'll be one of those players who falls between doing each of the central midfield roles effectively. At the moment his running isn't dynamic enough to get tackles in at the highest level, and he's probably not quite got the pace to play off a striker. LIek what I see, but no huge proclamations that we can build a side around him. That said a Shelvey, Wilshere, Rodwell central midfield for England in 4/5 years time could be incredibly effective.

RFH would of ruined a young Maradona, Matthaus or Diao
RedMersey Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Kelly was way better last night than GFJ has ever been this season.
Falconhoof Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Kelly was a bit hit and miss. Made plenty of runs down the wing with the ball at his feet, but his passing was often wayward.
Red Kent Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Kelly was a bit hit and miss. Made plenty of runs down the wing with the ball at his feet, but his passing was often wayward. Still better than Hairpiece and Carra in that position though.
Leo No.8 Posted October 22, 2010 Author Posted October 22, 2010 (edited) Kelly has been our best full back this year. Dubious honour perhaps but I think its hard to argue the fact. He's looked more solid and composed than the other senior full backs by a distance. Edited October 22, 2010 by Leo No.8

I just don't think many covered themselves in glory. He did OK, looked to be nervous early on. Understandable with the season we are having I guess.
