Gunga Din Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 right, lets assume that Hodgsons days are numbered and we will be getting a new manager in the next few days. lets also assume that Rafa wont be coming back in the next few days. who do you want in as manager from the candidates likely to be available over the next few weeks?
John am Rhein Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 Kenny Dalglish - although the Pellegrini sounds like he could be a good one (risk of it going seriously wrong, however)
Falconhoof Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 Dalglish first, see how he gets on, reassess in the summer.
Ed the Wool Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 Kenny until the end of the seasonHiddink part timeRijkaardPellegrini In that order.
Woodsyla Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 Not sure, if we are appointing now I'd say Pellegrini, however I would prefer the board to instill Dalglish as a caretaker whilst they get up to speed on running the club and then start to look at possibilities (including Kenny in a permanent capacity) around Feb time. This does mean writing off the January transfer window but as long as relegation is no longer a possibilty I think we have enough quality to see us comfortably to the end of the season. Then in comes the new permanent manager and he will have transfer funds at his disposal.
smithdown Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 Dalglish Pellog and Big Frank in equal second place
Walrus Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 (edited) Rudi Völler edit: oh and smithdown, I don't think Lampard is ready yet Edited October 21, 2010 by Walrus
fred milne Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 Kenny Dalglish - although the Pellegrini sounds like he could be a good one (risk of it going seriously wrong, however)Another option is having both: Dalglish with his eye for a player as director of football and Pellegrini as coach.
Dan Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 King Kenny for me. I presume someone posted Buxton's tweet last night that he reckons Rijkaard will, without question, be manager within the next 5 days. I presume this is the same info Kev is getting. Little bit nervy about Rijkaard, seems like a rushed decision if it's true. Did well at Barca admittedly but not so well after that. Got to admit i don't know a massive amount about Pelligrini other than what he did at Madrid and he did well with Villereal. Didn't pay a lot of attention to their style of play etc Both him and Rijkaard would be a somewhat unknown quantity for me, in that apart from their spells at Barca and Madrid respectively I know f*ck all else about them.
Rimbeux Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 Another option is having both: Dalglish with his eye for a player as director of football and Pellegrini as coach. That would be sensible. The issue main with Pellegrini or Rijkaard would be their previous reliance on the sporting director to get the players in. I'm not sure we have the situation this time for someone to ease into that responsibility and a structure to sort that would be a good idea imo
Frosty Jack Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 Dalgish for time being, but the rest of the staff need to change too. GK coach clearly, probably Fitness & Medical staff.I don't rate Sammy Lee at all unfortunately, manager alone won't solve this. Forward looking appointment would be Pellegrini, but in the future I would have us take Benitez back in a shot if available.
John am Rhein Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 Another option is having both: Dalglish with his eye for a player as director of football and Pellegrini as coach. Yes, that might well be a good option. I've no idea if either or both of them would be happy with the arrangement, though Does Dalglish have a particularly good record for spotting players, though? Rudi Völler as director of football with Rijkaard as coach
blago Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 Barca were well behind Madrid when Rijkaard left and he hasn't impressed at Galatasary either. I can't see the sense in opting for him over a coach like Pellegrini.
Bailo Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 (edited) chucklesome trip down memory laneThink the main thing that comes from that thread is that I should be treated as a forum sage. Anyway, Kenny for the short-term. Come Christmas, if things are going well and Kenny wants it, Kenny gets it. If he doesn't want it, or things aren't going well, spend the next 6 months identifying and securing the next long-term manager and crucially, HIS TRANSFER TARGETS. richwilks Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 It should have been Pelligrini in the summer and I'd hope that he gets the job now if we're appointing someone on a permanent basis. I could cope with Rijkard.
Billy Dane Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 (edited) Dump Sammy along with Roy and bring in Kenny and Thommo until the end of the season*. I agree with others that we need the owners to settle in to their roles and appoint a new CEO, who has experience in football, before we make a permanent appointment. * Needs to be announced as a permanent appointment though, or you'll have the press and the players looking to pick holes in the uncertainty surrounding their positions. Foxtrot Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 Rijkaard's early success at Barca were down to a well drilled good cop-bad cop partnership with his assistant Henk ten Cate. When the latter left, success has eluded Rijkaard completely.
Bo Benn Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 Always thought Rijkaard would be a decent choice. Pellegrini could work (how is his English?). Re Sammy Lee. Was he part of the crew that Rafa recently stated was part of the batch of staff that was imposed on him by the board 2 or so years ago?
drdooom Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 chucklesome trip down memory lane Yours truly got it right when he said Hodgson would be the only one interested of that lot mentioned. Yours truly wishes he'd been wrong. At the moment yours truly feels, looking at the track records of those mentioned now, that Pellegrini might be the best fit at this moment in time. But who knows.
