Epic Swindle Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Glad to hear this is one of the options being explored after so long twiddling our thumbs hoping a flash new cash cow will materialise. I've never liked any of the new designs and the potential new owners did a great job upgrading fenway with all its tradition. With a bit of commitment from all parties, including the council, they could do the same here. There's a lot more space around the ground now and it's no longer the logistical nightmare it was since it was dismissed as a serious option.
Ethan Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 I always wanted to stay - I hate the thought of leaving our spiritual home - Anfield is who we are
Lee W Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 It's not that simple. I thought we'd concluded that the footprint of the ground didn't lend itself to redevelopment. Besides, haven't we locked in grants and contracts relevant to the various regeneration and development projects around the City ? It all seems so long ago now....
Swan Red Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 I remember many an argument with Smicer, Leo's uncle iirc about never wanting to leave Anfield if we can secure a 60k stadium in our home I for one will be delighted
Montse Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Plus wouldnt we lose a shed load of gate receipts for a couple of years as stands were redeveloped?
Falconhoof Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 as long as it has underground bunkers, kids can make their own pizza and it has a fans viewing plaza I hope we get to see some detailed plans for a redeveloped Anfield if thats something they are seriously considering.
Benzo-13 Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 I'd love us to stay but we owe the local community a lot here.If we do stay I'd rather us redevelop the whole area too and follow through with transport links and giving the place a bit of a Renaissance.
Tones Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 European grants for redevelopment of Anfield area are tied to a new stadium being built, or i hear elsewhere. If we redevelop Anfield then those grants are lost. Not sure how much that matters to LFC fans?
charlie clown Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Agreed - I was quote excited about the thought of a new stadium but I couldn't help but feel we would lose something in the move. A decent redeve of Anfield would be much better. I guess the other thing is that as time passes the opportunity to expand the footprint might also change for the better.....
aka Dus Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Would love to stay. Absolutely love it. It's all doable.
stressederic Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 We'll need to keep a spot clear for the statue of me.
Sir_Bob_Paisley Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Didn't some fella look at turning the pitch 90 degrees? Something about keeping 3 sides of the ground open for games whilst they built the outer walls of the new structure then knocking down out of season? Or did I do some bad drugs and imagine it?
Flight Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 I suspect a stadium away from Anfield (docks or near the motorway) will also be reconsidered.
surf Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 We'll need to keep a spot clear for the statue of me. we could always do an underground statue. or a very very very small one, oscar sized Would love to stay. Absolutely love it. It's all doable. problem could be the traffic situation. does the current area allow for the safe arrival and departure of 60k fans? Didn't some fella look at turning the pitch 90 degrees? Or did I do some bad drugs and imagine it? i appreciate a vertical pitch takes less room, but it doesnt make playing football any easier
Will Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 problem could be the traffic situation. does the current area allow for the safe arrival and departure of 60k fans?No different than for the new stadium!

LFC is part of its community - the community has benefited greatly from the club's presence over the decades, and that should continue
Jarg Armani Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Is 100% my ideal scenario. Could work out well for the world cup if we could get some cash from the government to redevelop, like the German stadiums did. Stop laughing.
Will Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 My main problem with the redevelopment is the greatly reduced capacity / facilities / revenues while it is taking place, which I think is why it was ruled out on all the previous occasions it's been looked at. It would be wonderful to pull it off though

johngibo YPC Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 It would be wonderful to pull it off though Thats what she said
johngibo YPC Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Nice. If you can't throw around a bit of innuendo on a day like today, when can you?
Epic Swindle Posted October 6, 2010 Author Posted October 6, 2010 The community regeneration is vital to the whole thing, it needs huge public and private investment. I'm not sure what's going on with the houses waiting for demolition but that will be one huge space when completed. Anfield Road could be re routed through the top of the park or through a tunnel underneath the new stand.
