downunder Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 (edited) Watching the rubbish currentky being served up has made us think of the Souness 'era'. We were worse then, and luckily when he went things changed pretty quickly, hopefully they can again now. Does anyone else remember the mighty Chesterfield going 3 up at Anfield before we scraped a 4-4 draw? We survived relegation by 10 points. We are not yet this bad, but we are getting there. For those brave enough, here is a link to the gory details. http://www.lfchistory.net/seasongames.asp?Season_id=33 Edited October 5, 2010 by downunder
Eiler99 Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 Two wins in our first 7 league games that season. Sounds like a dream start.
Snookie Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 The Souness years were dreadful but he understand what the club means and acknowledges, with a great deal of regret, just how much damage he did during his time as manager, I can't see Hodgson being capable of either.
Billy Dane Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 At least with the Souness era we had young players coming through who offered a glimpse of a brighter future. Roy has written off the younger players we have with his comments after the Northampton game. I don't expect to see the likes of Shelvey or Pachecho anywhere near the first team until Roy goes.
John am Rhein Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 We are not yet this bad, but we are getting there. how is drawing 4-4 with Chesterfield worse than losing to Northampton?
carrafan Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 Hillsborough and Heysel were worse. Much worse. For different reasons and we cannot use them to console ourselves of this state. We simply need to do whatever we can to get G&H out and hope for the best.
Boca Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 We were paying for the mistakes of the Souness era right up until Houllier got a grip of the club seven or eight years later. That not "pretty quickly" But it's worse now. From top to bottom.
Des Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 Hillsborough and Heysel were worse. Don't see why you're bringing those into it. In terms of the football on the pitch, this is the lowest point that anybody under 60 can remember.

downunder Posted October 5, 2010 Author Posted October 5, 2010 how is drawing 4-4 with Chesterfield worse than losing to Northampton? We drew with Northampton like we did with Chesterfield. As for Houllier fixing the mess, Evans got us challenging for the title. I think we can get worse under Hodgson, and we might, but the Souness era was worse for longer. None of us know where we will be in 6 months. We could have a new manager, money and playing good football.

And what is going on with regards to ownership and the t***s on our board, this is much much worse.

And what is going on with regards to ownership and the t***s on our board, this is much much worse. The worse was what's going on on the pitch. It was farcical with Souness, his programme notes taken out of one game (everyone though he had been sacked), talk of Kenny coming back...then DM decided to keep his mate in a job. We were a laughing stock back then too. We have been getting worse on the pitch for a long time, Rafa couldn't get the team playing last season ...and Roy hasn't been able to stem the tide, he has, in fact, made the quality go down even quicker than anyone envisaged (even those who didn't want him in the first place)..

Hodgson is far far worse. At least you had some hope you would actually win under Souness, we don't have that now. I go into each game expecting nothing now and that's exactly what we're getting. The football is much much worse too. I have never seen a Liverpool side so demoralised, clueless and disjointed ever. This is the worst Liverpool side in living memory. We now finally have a player worse than Paul Stewart too in Poulsen.
_00_deathscar Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 We survived relegation by 10 points. We are not yet this bad, but we are getting there. Seen the league table lately? And this is without any 9 point deduction...

I didn't celebrate the goal against Blackpool & barely celebrated the eq against Sunderland. My emotions have been numbed by everything on & off the pitch. I just hope it comes back when all of this is over
downunder Posted October 6, 2010 Author Posted October 6, 2010 Seen the league table lately? And this is without any 9 point deduction... 7 games in, probably not where we will be after 38. The league table also shows we are not far from the top end points wise. I am not in any way saying things are good, but I still stand by the fact that 1992 was worse . I don't rate the Greek but he is ten times better than Tanner ever was. The crowds we were getting in European games too, awful. Not many wanted to watch us, you could pay on the gate many games for the league as well, people had money in the 90s, tickets were cheapish but we were not worth paying to watch.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 are you mad? We're 12 points off the top - and I'll wager it won't be fewer again this season - and 1 off the bottom. Unless we beat Everton, we'll still be in the bottom 3 after our 8th game

Unless we beat Everton, we'll still be in the bottom 3 after our 8th game I was thinking more the 5 points off 4th, hence me saying top end...not top. As I keep saying we are on course to get worse than any of us (except Murph) remember, but to me we aren't there yet.
John am Rhein Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 We're worse than I can remember us ever being and I can remember 35 years Pretty sure we're worse than we've been since Shankly took over
Red Kent Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 I cannot remember us being as bas as this, I started going in 1970.
