David Hodgson Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Ok, I've thought this through, and I'm going to give RH some more advice on his team for Sunday. He failed to pick my dream midfield of Johnson, Meirles, Gerrard and Babel, and the result speaks for itself. For OT I'm going with this seemingly defensive line up, that secretly oozes pace and flexibility : -----------------------------Reina Kelly----------Carragher--------Agger-------Konchesky Johnson--------Meireles-----Poulsen-----Gerrard------Aurelio ----------------------------Torres The way it is works that defensively the midfield full backs provide extra cover against Uniteds width, and the threat of Evra in particular. The central mid trio stifle United generally, but Meireles and Gerrard and Johnson are given licence to bomb forward in all directions in support of Torres the minute we have the ball. At these junctures, Aurelio tucks in alongside Poulsen to give us a compact shape behind them, and allow for the possibility that either Kelly or Konchesky may join up with a promising attack. So, defensive solidity all round, but real pace and movement on the counter, and throw Babel in late on to upset them further. Are you listening this time Roy ?
Benzo-13 Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 You're not gonna get Johnson on the right. Four full backs? I remember this place going apocalypto over that at the Britannia last year. Just put our best XI on the pitch and have a go.We're gonna be done for a pen if Scholes falls at the halfway line anyway.

When we came out with that 3-5-2 or whatever it was, everyone was livid (because it didn't work, obviously). I would love to see this, as I believe it is an arrangement of the 'default' formation which includes all of our best players (except Kuyt, injured) and almost all playing in their natural positions ReinaJohnson Carra Agger PaulMereiles PoulsenMaxi Gerrard ColeNando

Stevie H Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 think we'll learn a lot about roy from how he sets up for this one.
floyd Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 think we'll learn a lot about roy from how he sets up for this one.Going on how he sent his Fulham teams to Old Trafford, it'll be damage limitations, and take a 3-0 loss.
Farmer's Tan Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 if he doesn't expect much at birmingham wtf is he going to expect at ot.
Frosty Jack Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 ReinaJohnson Carra Agger AurelioMereiles PoulsenMaxi Gerrard ColeNando though i do think the Johnson at RM could work. that team, well actually any team without Babel in it is seriously lacking pace though.
richwilks Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Reina Johnson - Carra - Agger - Konchesky Poulson - Merieles Cole - Gerrard - Babel Torres Have a go at the f*****s.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 think we'll learn a lot about roy from how he sets up for this one. Sorry, couldnt agree less - if Roy was not disappointed with a point against Brum away and not making attacking substitutions then I think we all know how he will set up away to Utd. In fact, I think Torres could get so isolated that he might be a good bet for a sending off given the level of frustration I expect him to suffer. I think we learn more about Roy in away games to Blackburn, Stoke, Bolton etc.
Widnesian Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Reina Johnson - Carra - Agger - Konchesky Poulson - Merieles Cole - Gerrard - Babel Torres Have a go at the f*****s.this

You see, this is why Roy's just pipped me for the Liverpool manager's job, because he (and you) remember that we own Joe Cole, whereas I entirely forgot that fact. I don't want to see Maxi and Jovanovic starting proper matches for a while. Neither offers enough defensively or going forward to merit regular starts. Reina Johnson - Carra - Agger - Konchesky Poulson - Merieles Cole - Gerrard - Babel Torres Have a go at the f*****s. Thats the team that 'Arry 'ave a go' Redknapp would pick. And me too, thinking about it a bit more. Love it.
floyd Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Reina Johnson - Carra - Skirtl - Konchesky Cole - Poulson - Lucas - Jovanovic Gerrard Torres
Rory Fitzgerald Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Thats the team that 'Arry 'ave a go' Redknapp would pick. And me too, thinking about it a bit more. Love it. I want Meireles, Gerrard, Torres, Cole to play. One from Lucas/Poulsen and probably Maxi on the right if Cole is left. However, if Cole is right then I am not pushed on Jova on the left. Agger to partner Carra with Skrtel dropped. Thats the bones of what I want to see. Reina Johnson - Carra - Skirtl - Konchesky Cole - Poulson - Lucas - Jovanovic Gerrard Torres Is what I fear.
Chili Palmer Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Reina Johnson - Carra - Skirtl - Konchesky Cole - Poulson - Lucas - Jovanovic Gerrard Torres I think you're being optimistic there, I can see Gerrard being told to stay closer to the midfield than to Nando.
Conrad Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Reina Johnson - Carra - Agger - Konchesky Poulson - Merieles Cole - Gerrard - Babel Torres Have a go at the f*****s. That's the team I would pick, though might have Babel and Cole the other way round
Cobs Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Reina Johnson Carra Agger PFK Lucas Merieles Maxi Gerrard Cole Torres
Rory Fitzgerald Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 (edited) Reina Johnson Carra Agger PFK Lucas Merieles Maxi Gerrard Cole Torres f*** it, I'm gonna back you on Lucas, Cobs. From what I have seen of Poulsen, he is just slow. I think Lucas will get busy in there and cover more ground. Dont anyone dare ask me to make a case for Lucas - but for this game and in a choice with him and Poulsen, I'll go with Lucas. I think I'd like to see Meireles and Gerrard play the central role in easier games with Maxi, Cole, Jova ahead of them - moot point for this game though. Edited September 14, 2010 by Rory Fitzgerald
Chili Palmer Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Reina Johnson Carra Agger PFK Lucas Merieles Maxi Gerrard Cole Torres I think this will be the team. And when I say think I mean hope. I like PFK, I wonder does he get that put on his training tops?
CarraLegend Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 (edited) Whatever anyone thinks of Lucas he has a habit of playing well against these, I'd forgotten about that so would definitely pick him ahead of Poulsen who so far looks absolutely s****. Edited September 14, 2010 by CarraLegend
jimmylibel Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Reina Johnson Carra Agger PFK Lucas Merieles Maxi Gerrard Cole Torres I'd go with Aurelio at left back if he was fit but agree otherwise. Worried about Berbatov... he's playing well at the minute and could do damage given how weak we're looking to the high ball at the moment.
Eiler99 Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 I'd go: Pepe Johnson Carra Skrtel Agger Lucas Merieles Maxi Gerrard Cole Torres
Chili Palmer Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 I'd go with Aurelio at left back if he was fit but agree otherwise. I don't think he is fit.
Jarg Armani Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 In trouble without Dirk for this one I fear.
aka Dus Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Reina Johnson - Carra - Agger - Konchesky Poulson - Merieles Cole - Gerrard - Babel Torres Have a go at the f*****s. Teams that have a go at those pricks get a lot more than teams who go and park the bus. This is the team to play.
