Seeing as all and sundry have an opinion good or bad about the tactics employed in our games so far this season, what approach would you put forward to get 3 points against Birmingham City?

Kuyt is out obviously, so put forward your teams but more preferably say who you think is a big threat and how you would counteract that while also allowing us to be aggressive enough going forward to get a win

I'd go with

Reina

Konchesky

Agger

Carragher

Johnson

Poulson

Lucas

Jovanovic

Meireles

Gerrard

Torres

A big threat for me would be McFadden and also Zigic if he starts then Soto might be required. Their centre midfielders arent hugely pacey - Ferguson, Bowyer and if we had Poulson and Lucas in the centre with SG, Jova And Meireles ahead of them I think we would carry enough threat to ensure we see enough of the play in their half to get a goal. Jeromes power should be handled by Carra and Agger without too much hassle but the threat from set-pieces makes me think a starting spot for the Greek would be a better bet at the back

Thoughts?

only on the basis that Gerrard would definitely be competent on the right of that 3. RM is a 'midfielder' beyond that I know little about him apart from seeing quotes that he 'attacks space' SG got a lot of goals playing towards the right a few years back and for me Raul is a bit of an unknown. I would see the 3 as operating about as wide as the edge of the box as opposed to a right winger or in Jovas case a left winger - think he's more suited to an attacking m/f role and not at all as a winger.

tbh I'm interested in seeing where the threat is coming from Birmingham and how you would set up the team to stop it/counteract it, not so that people can later so 'I knew their left back was better that Roberto Carlos and I said so in this thread' but so that people can put forward some form of tactical thinking - f*** knows we wont get any such thing on the telly so you guys are my best bet!

Hleb is out for them, I saw on SSN today. Glad about that. Half expected him to do something against us based purely on the face we were linked with him too.

That's the strongest team I can see us fielding on Sunday, and that team don't look bad at all. Can't see any other threats than Jerome's power and Larssons set pieces.

Hah, thats not totally rubbish.

I think that's the team he'll go with. Personally I'd love to see Pacheco and or Babel in their, but it ain't a bad team.

Zigic is a worry, i assume. He was brilliant when i saw him at Racing Santander.

not been all that really so far but it's still the sort of game you wish you had sami hyypia starting. their defence is still pretty good and hleb will probably have a blinder against us for dissing him in the mascherano transfer.

Definitely. Jerome and Zigic will be a handful for Carra. Rafa used to play Hyypia/Kyrgiakos in such games, will be interesting to see what Roy does.

I can see Roy going with something like:

---------------reina-----------

-----carra---Greek----agger

Glojo------poulsen--------------konchesky

-------------merelies---------

--------maxi----------gerrard

--------------Torres-------------

Possession is everything ageist brum so maxi is a must. Poulsen gets the nod over Lucas to stop silly freekicks around our box (or less than Lucas gives away, f***ing hell masch) just worry about poulsens passing, he sees the pass but can't seem to make it just yet, hopefully as his fitness kicks in so will his passing. Get pachecho on early 2nd half, and hopefully babel fancies it and stretches them late on.

Birmingham struggle to break down lesser teams at home

hehe. it's funny because it's true. if we go there and look solid and get a draw, Roy will be happy. that's where we are at.

OH LOOK. A MYTH.

What myth? I'm probably Lucas' biggest fan on here but I know he has a tendency to give a few crucial frees away between the halfway line and our 18. Giving free reign for balls into zigic.

By the way gibo that's not my team it's the team I think Roy will go with. After the way we played last time out a draw away to brum may not be the worst result in the world. Don't see the issue with it myself.

Is there a competition for the highest number of lines in a formation? Mad team....
