You don't need to bank with RBS to be involved! October 6 2010 is the deadline for the RBS Loans to the owners of LFC. The threat to withdraw funds, close accounts, transfer credit cards, mortgages, and loans, en masse, from RBS and it's related companies on October 11, is intended to encourage RBS to refuse refinancing, and act in the public interest.

 

If you, your friends or family members want to take part in this boycott, please encourage them to keep their business with RBS until October 11. The threat of mass, simultaneous withdrawal of funds and business from the bank and its associated companies is much more powerful than any individual boycott. LFC supporters and the city as a whole demonstrated with the successful boycott of the Sun newspaper since 1989, following the Hillsborough tragedy, that these mass actions can have a powerful economic effect on the companies concerned.

 

If you do not bank with RBS, please check this list carefully for their other brands you might have business with.

Alternatively it could be worthwhile to actually open an RBS account to enable participation on October 11.

 

This action will be accompanied by a permanent boycott of RBS services and products for as long as the bank fails to act in the public, and Liverpool Football Club's, interest.

 

There are other forms of direct action being discussed, this is one of many, but we feel this form of protest could play a worthwhile role in bringing the club back into responsible debt-free ownership.

Absolutely. Their standard current account is free to open. Not sure what the minimum amount is - but many are as low as a pound. They have to do administrative work, get your cash / credit card made up, print a cheque book, and mail it all (probably 3-4 mailings in all).

 

People could open an account and then when closing it give the reasons and state that there will be a permanent boycott of RBS services and products until the bank makes decisive steps to act in the interest of LFC

I was in the soccer store yesterday getting new kits for my team as well as two new match balls, goalie gloves and new boots and shinpads for my daughter. I dropped about $2500 on the lot. I had to make the decison -- Adidas or anyone else for all of the stuff. I went with everyone else. Diadora boots and shinpads, Uhlsport goalie gloves, Nike kits and balls. I told Carlos who owns the shop why I was doing it and I have to tell you that it felt great to do it. I'm on board for all of this. You multiply these boycotts everywhere and it really starts to add up.

From what we can see the October 11th thing is the most focussed campaign towards the bank currently running.

 

RBS are the only ones who can refuse refinancing, and/or repossess.

 

Personally I don't understand why anyone would refuse to support this idea, unless they're motivated by personal grievance or prejudice. Nobody is looking for "a pat on the head" as one poster put it. We're f***ing desperate, and this might be the best chance we have.

 

There are other ideas, blockade, sponsor boycotts, which should all be implemented. Nobody is in a position to tell anybody else, who is prepared to put the graft into a protest idea, that it won't work.

 

The more pressure across the board, the better, surely.

Stories have recently surfaced in the media that RBS may well take over Liverpool FC should the October 6th deadline pass without any new buyer in place to take Liverpool FC out of Tom Hicks and George Gillett's hands.

 

This is no reason to hang fire on the RBS Black Monday campaign, but every reason to intensify it.

 

If RBS is able to take over Liverpool FC and then arrange a sale and the only alternative is the ongoing absentee, profiteering ownership we've seen for the last four years then it is quite clear what the best course of action is both for RBS and for Liverpool supporters.

 

RBS needs to realise that every day the current owners are at the helm is a day which makes LFC a tougher sell. For four consecutive transfer windows money has gone out of the playing squad not in. The price of the stadium has only risen over the long term and any refinance increases the amount of debt that RBS would want any prospective buyer to pay to take ownership of the football club. Therefore, any prospective owner would need to invest further in the playing squad in terms of both transfer fees and wages, plus also in the stadium in addition to purchasing the football club itself.

 

This situation is untenable, and the existence of Liverpool FC is at risk.

 

Furthermore, the longer Hicks and Gillett own the club, the longer the threat of supporters deserting the club in their droves exists. Manchester United's powerhouse PR and marketing hasn't been able to secure its season ticket targets this year. If Liverpool FC is to remain competitive over the long term, allowing a block of supporters to drift away from the club is simply not an option, certainly not with a new stadium tohopefully fill in the future. Any RBS refinancing could see significant numbers of long term, loyal Liverpool FC supporters throw their hands up and declare enough to be enough. You don't support Liverpool FC to see cynical businessmen run the football club into the ground and it only becomes a harder pill to swallow as ticket prices rise.

 

RBS is now significantly tax-payer owned and the same question marks apply as far as they are concerned. Why should they act in a way which is evidently not in one of the national's cultural institutions' interests? There can be no further argument about what Hicks and Gillett mean for LFC. The proof is all too evident.

 

This is not a business, this is a living community.

 

The area of Anfield itself also needs a change of ownership at Liverpool Football Club. Liverpool and Everton are the cornerstone of the economy of the Anfield/Breckfield area and much of the regeneration of Anfield is on hold until a definite decision is made on the future of the stadium. The football club is the principle agent of change in one of the most deprived wards in the country. While these problems pre-date Hicks and Gillett, a change here offers the possibility of change in the area and any institution owned largely by the tax payer has a moral imperative to act in the interests of the people - not in the interests of two businessmen who have no connection with the UK let alone the city of Liverpool.

 

Lastly, though, we can make it in RBS' interests. We can threaten to shame them for their irresponsible support of these carpet-bagging owners, and we can threaten to remove all our collective business from RBS, NatWest and all their affiliated companies on October 11th, if they fail to do the decent thing.

There should be no refinance on October 6th.

Because it gives RBS 4 days to act once the deadline passes, and it's a monday.

 

Would make no sense on the 6th or 7th as there might not even be a decision made let alone public knowledge, but you would hope there would be by the weekend, and that would give enough leeway to let everybody know if it is going ahead.

think pre-empting a stated deadline kind of removes the threat really tosh. RBS can have until the 11th hour if they want. so long as they act. afterwards removes wriggle room.
