Interesting for a number of reasons. I wonder if Rafa knew this. The figure that actually stood out for me wasn't to do with Inter at all, but Bayern's €135m commercial revenue. Anyone know how they managed that?

jesus christ that's a fascinating piece of writing. david conn eat your heart out. and hello michel platini?

raphael honigstein was on the guardian podcast this week talking about just how much ribery gets paid at bayern maldini, worth a listen if you haven't heard it. thanks for posting by the way, nice one.

Why do the Mancs have nearly £100m coming in for broadcasting compared to us, Chelsea and Arsenal on between £75-80m?

It is a subscription channel isn't it? Whereas ours comes in most cable packages I think.

Surprised it's raking in £25m on it's own without having live games.

I think he knew, he mentioned something about being more of a coach in his initial interview and that he understood he wouldn't be involved in boardroom decisions etc.

A good article indeed. One of the 'problems' is that tickets are relatively cheap - mainly because every single match is live on tv. In Italy, the culture of going to the match is not as strong as in other places.

I'm sure Moratti will not leave Inter with a mountain of debt, but then, I don't see him going anywhere for a few years yet.

I'd love to see him do a similar analysis on us

Yeah it's fascinating, when you look at the moves Ayre has made in the past couple of years and the incredible improvement in our commercial revenues the Bayern model is clearly something we're looking into moving towards. They get more because they're free to air, but they've a rake of "partners" kind of like we do now but their ones pay €4-8m a year to be the official beer, or car or whatever.

MUTV runs at a loss as far as I know. Don't know what that €25m was, maybe for pre-season tours or something?

There's a really interesting article on there about Brighton and Hove Albion as well

Thanks for that, a concise history, although he's managed to avoid naming Norman Baker!

As someone who has been p*ss*d on by the weather at Withdean on many occasions, I'm looking forward to the Falmer.

Part of that Bayern commercial factor, and I think anyone who's ever lived in Germany will back this up, is their unbelievable high profile compared to all other clubs, and when you have 80m+ population that really matters.

Bayern shirts out number other shirts by a ridiculous factor all over the country with the young'uns, all I used to see was Kahn and Ballack, guessing its the same now with Ribery and Robben. Then they are constantly on the TV, not just games, but advertising big brands - D-Telekom, McD's etc.

For a country that lacks a royal family they have an equivalent in Bayern, and particularly Beckenbauer.

And those figures show just why us building our stadium is so important. £60m down on Arsenal for the season in matchday revenue, £70m on Manchester United - astonishing amounts.

If only the c*nts who own the club would f*ck off, we could get back to being one of the world's greatest clubs again.

This is true,.

When I was in Berlin. Hertha were playing Bayern in the last game of the season. I saw thousands of Bayern fans and hardly any Hertha fans walking around the city

If it's a simple numer of paying viewers to production costs comparison in the uk then no it doesn't balance out. But you have to bear in mind that stuff from MUTV is uploaded to the website, they sell exclusive MUTV rights to their Far East partners and it's free advertising space for match tickets, Inside United etc etc.

It's the same for us, we won't make any money but it's a good marketing tool.
