The would-be robber allegedly went into the Coral betting shop, in Woolton Road, Garston, while the shop was empty one morning and approached the counter with his hood up.

He thrust a piece of paper towards the 20-year-old assistant, who was sat behind toughened glass.

On it was a hand-written demand for money, which read: “Give me the money or they are going to kill me.”

But the plucky assistant did not believe the threat and refused to hand any cash over.

With his plan foiled, the wannabe thief turned and left.
