Moving back to the North-West

Got a job in Manchester, and would like to live somewhere that's commutable.

 

My preference would be Liverpool really, and I don't mind the drive to Mancland, but I need to find an area that my wife will like (pretty, old houses). Any suggestions?

 

Otherwise, I'm looking at Lymm, Nantwich, Northwich, Poulton, Frodhsam, anywhere else?

 

Stockton Heath looks nice too.
