Just looking at the tanget the Jovanovic thread has gotten into about the worst player to ever play for LFC, I was wondering who everyone thought was our worst ever signing? I'm not just talking about the headline figure but also the context of the time, the contribution made, how hard they were to shift etc.

Personally I think it's got to be Julian Dicks. We got rid of Mike Marsh and David Burrows (decent enough players at the time) and it was the British transfer record for a defender at the time (something like £2.3 million I think). He was always injured, didn't play that well and I think he only featured in something like 24 games before we sold him back to West Ham a year or so later.

Paul Stewart. he was absolute s****. Diouf isnt a bad player. he's a t***, but not a bad footballer. Stewart was just s****.and we paid over £2mil for him, when 2mil was a lot of money

Aquilani is staking a claim at the minute too, if we are talking pound for pound. as would robbie keane

On a pure cost/impact assessment, Aquilani.

If you don't consider players still here, one of Diao, Ferri, Diomede, Carter, Speedie, Kvarme or Josemi.

Dicks was £1.5m i think

Jimmy Carter bought for just under a million shifted on after a handful of games was of the same ilk - how we got money for him i'll never know - was he one of George Graham's bungs?

in terms of money spent for what we got back Cisse & Keane have to be up there and Babb was a record signing

but Diao remains my No.1

I can see that two above have ability though, but sometimes players just dont fit into a club's system.

Stewart was just utter gash

Pound for wasted pound i think its Diouf

Problem with Diouf was that that summer we needed those signings to work, so it makes his transfer look worse than it really was. Same with Keane and Aquilani.

Paul Stewart. Why?

He wasn't even very good for Man City

26 goals in 51 games for City

but he was dogschit for us

speedie played 12 games. he scored 6 times. he scored against the mancs and the bitters in the same week. doesnt deserve to be in this thread

Dicks was one of the 'it never happens' player trades wasn't he ? Was still very bad business, though, I agree.

Good shout. And then £2.5mill for Ruddock the following summer, back when that was a lot. A dark period.

the diouf signing was awful, whichever way you look at it, we probably paid three times more than he was worth
