But in the Chelsea programme today -

"Joe Cole has gone to a smallish club somewhere north of the M25..."

I hope he wins player of the year now, he's officially my favourite player now as it seems to irk them that much.

I bet they are really chuffed with themselves with that comment as well. Made themselves look smalltime IMO, Everton with cash.

Lets get all upset about it as if we give a s***.

nah plastic club, fans etc, Chelsea arent even on my radar of hate. a few others dominate that front I'm sure you could name them at a push, well no push required really.

debut for his new club playing in his preferred position on a lovely sunny day at the best ground in the land. shouldn't need any more motivation than that anyway.

Tried too hard yesterday, although Arsenal were squeezing up nicely in the first half and were stopping him turning and linking up, unlike Nasri who played in a similar role and was finding space time and again due to our deep defensive line.

No concerns about him in that position against the majority of sides who come and sit back, but in the bigger games I'd prefer to see the extra midfielder in there, with Joe coming off the flank where he'll get more time and space.

Yeah i agree with this. Against the big clubs would be playing Gerrard there with Cole wide

Think we'd be better off doing that in every game.

Cole will have some big games in that position but a lot of the time he's going to completely disappear.

Personally I'd rather play one of the world's best players with a proven history of being able to consistantly operate in the role there.

Agreed, hated seeing Gerrard taking balls of Carragher and Skrtel the other day. Wenger must have loved it though, our biggest goal threat given Torres wasnt starting sitting infront of his own penalty area.

I think Cole can be a success in that role but it will need a braver approach i.e. squeezing up and playing a higher line, which brings up another debate about our centre back pairing. He struggled on Sunday because he was so isolated and if we're not going to take a few more risks he'd be better off playing on the fringes.

I just don't think he's ever shown anything like the necessary consistancy to be occupying such a vital role. I can see him being unplayable in some games and then completely and utterly anonymous in other games.

I also don't think anyone in the squad is as good as Gerrard in that position and as it's his best position he should be playing there.

Rather academic though, because Hodgson and Gerrard look like they've agreed he's going to be a centre mid this season. Mores the shame.
