Flight Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Time to separate my views on the scummy ownership situation from my support of the boys. Reasons to be cheerful : 1. I'm upbeat about the Hodge (*****). He's actually the perfect manager for where we are, rather than the managers of the last decade who have been here to try build towards something. Central to this thinking is that we cannot afford to spend big on our CBs and until we can the Hodges tactics and Prem experience are perfect for getting the best out of Jamie/A N Other. 2. Our big players are back. Danny, GlenJo, Stevie, our World Champions Nando and Pepe and the big smiling blonde Dutch lad. 3. Transfers. Jovanovich and J Cole on a free ! That didn't really happen, did it ? I believe Poulsen will do well here; the Prem will suit him much more than the Italian or Spanish leagues. And for only £2mill up front it is a blinding bit of business. He is possibly a better fit for our needs for a majority of Prem games than Masch. Masch out, Crouchie and a good LB in and I'd suggest the squad has actually improved. Predictions : Prem : 3rd FA Cup : Winners EUFA Cup : Winners CC : QF **** I reserve the right to call him all the lisping c**** under the sun if we lose to the Mancs and he kisses Taggarts a***.
digs_nz Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Prem : 4th - No f***ing way we are letting Tottenham nip that again, and City will f*** out again no doubt. FA Cup : No idea EUFA Cup : Semi, playing kids/second string team the whole way, knocked out to strong opposition who end up on the same side of the draw CC : QF Same situation as above
Sion Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 (edited) Prem :If our best players stay fit and in form for the majority of the season no reason why we can't challenge for 1st. But that won't happen so 4th at best. FA Cup : 4th round Europa : Will depend on the quality of the CL dropouts. At least 1/4s, should be looking at winning it. CC : don't care Edited August 12, 2010 by Sion

Case Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 League - 2ndOne of the Dopmestic Cups - Winners (with jammy home draws all the way through), to give The Hodge his first trophy in domestic footballEuropa League - I couldn't give a monkey's blue a***. Player of the Season - GloJo
Logic Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 League - 4th (playing good football along the way with a lot more optimism around)Carling Cup - Lose in the semi's against one of the newly-rich clubs (T-ham or ManCity)FA Cup - Lose in the final due to a dubious goal given to the opponents. Refereeing of the same s*** standard as last season. Winners one of our fiercest rivals (historically).UEFA - Winners against very good opposition. Setting us up for the resurgence the season after this one. Kelly and Pacheco rise above the rest of the young ones to become new stars.
stressederic Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Would be a decent season. If only we hadn't conceded that goal in the league.
sean Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 What will be funny this year, is the expectation levels of the blues**** that have soared out of control and they genuinely think if they keep their 'best 11' fit they will not only finish above us, but test the resolve of the others at the top of the table. I hope they die on their horrible arses.
AE Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Would be a decent season. We would still find plenty to moan about though
RedHarvest Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Despite the extremely precarious ownership/takeover situation I'm feeling optimistic about the coming season. A good start is vital, as is luck with injuries, but: League - 3rd behind Chelsea and Citeh FA Cup - Runners up UEFA Cup - Winners Gerrard, Cole, Johnson, Jovanovic, Pacheco all to shine
Rocheteau Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 (edited) Transitional period a tough start and unrest in the boardroom makes it difficult for Hodgson to get early momentum which these days seem increasingly important before pressure starts to work against you I think 5th is probably a level headed assessment of where we stand this season. i wouldn't rule out a higher placing but would be dissappointed with anything less.Last thing I want is a good run in the Europa but I can see us muddling through to the final stages depending on Hodgsons commitment. Success in the FA Cup would be nice but basically its a lottery Summary League 5th possibly 4th if one of the other fancied teams have a nightmare seasonEuropa Semi'sFA cup Semi'sCarling cup Quarter Finals The main business is the stabilisation of the club, investment in the stadium, and the feeling that we are building for the future Edited August 13, 2010 by ChaoticPrimate
Benzo-13 Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Smash back into the top four at all costs. An appearance at Wembley or Lansdowne would be nice but we're easily a top 4 side in this bits of sh** league.
John am Rhein Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Premier League - 5thFA Cup - 5th round replay defeat by Norwich CityLeague Cup - semi final defeat by ChelseaUEFA Cup (or whatever it's called) winners
schmuckdonald Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Premiership - 4th/5th depending on Spurs and City - think Spurs will be a bigger threatFA Cup - 5/6th round - Get knocked out in some crap circumstances against one of: Spurs, City, Arsenal, Utd., Chelsea or EvertonLeague Cup - 4/5th round - kids do alright against lesser opposition but come undone against first major team they play againstEuropa - Semi's - Squad depth means we won't fall completely flat later on in the season and it'll be more competitive in the semi. This is going on the assumed injuries. I think a lack of expectation and a more us vs them mentality will suit us, get through the first 5 games with 4 wins and I'll be a bit more optimistic.
