Right, all you culinary geniii. My wife is giving up work to look after our 2 wee'uns and we're going through budgets etc. (as you do!) We've now reached the dreaded "getting rid of Sky" conversation which inevitably ends in an argument when I tell her I'll curl one out in front of her mom before I do that so it's time for me to get pro-active and come up with some input of my own.

We spend a shedload on grub, mainly because we have been able to and haven't really had to think about it too much until we sat and went through the bank statements last night and nearly had a canary how much the daily jaunts to Tesco add up to!

So your mission should you choose to accept it is to give me your favourite budget (perhaps one-pot) recipes. I don't mean super noodles on toast etc, I mean casseroles, risottos, shepherds pies - good hearty family food.

I make a great chilli and a good chorizo, chicken and chick pea casserole but I need to branch out a bit.

Any suggestions? The cheaper and easier the better.

Cheers
