Montse Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Exeter striker Adam Stansfield dies of cancer at 31 Exeter City have announced that striker Adam Stansfield has died of cancer at the age of 31.Stansfield was diagnosed with bowel cancer following a series of tests for an abdominal complaint in April, after being admitted to hospital in March.The former Yeovil and Hereford player scored seven goals in 19 appearances for Exeter last season.The League One side made a statement on its website after a 3-2 home Carling Cup defeat by Ipswich on Tuesday."It is with great sadness that Exeter City Football Club have to confirm the news that Adam Stansfield passed away this evening," it said. Exeter said it would open the Big Bank gates at St James Park from 0930 BST on Wednesday for fans who wish to pay their respects.The Tiverton-born forward joined Hereford on a free transfer in 2004 and two years later moved on to Exeter, where he made more than 150 first-team appearances, scoring 39 goals.beeb How very sad, thoughts with his family and friends
Dan Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 F*cking terrible. 5 months from diagnosis to death is horrific, particularly for someone so young. One of my best mates has just died at 35 from bladder cancer. It took 7 months to kill him. Just devastating.
