Apple Phone / Music Player etc advice

So the missus has agreed I can get an Iphone if I want, but I have been thinking about it and i am not sure that would be best.

Basically I rarely use my mobile phone. I do some web browsing on it, but that is mainly checking up on sports scores / results when I am out.

 

Would I be better getting an iPod touch (I know the thing about carrying two devices) as it is the apps etc that I really want??

 

Obviously all rude comments are wecome but it is advise I really want

 

And yes I know the new one is out in September so I will probably wait until then
