Paul 'Queenie' McQueen died last night. He was a good mate of mine, a fellow red born in Liverpool of scouse parents who's big claim to fame is he was the grandson of Matt McQueen whose picture adorns the walls at Anfield. For those of you who don't know Matt McQueen and his role in our history...

Matt McQueen

Queenie was a ladies man extraordinaire, a local DJ, a rabble rouser a park player but unfortunately a BIG drinker too and he died of alcoholism last night aged 44. I sat in The Stretford End with him, behind enemy lines, I shat my pants when he told me 'I've simply got to nut that manc c*nt Murph, sorry' as one of the great unwashed close by sang about his bonfire.

We danced in the Paddock when Gary Mac scored his penalty against Pepe Reina, I was in the players lounge with him at Coventry when he phoned his girlfriend and got Sami to say hello,Sami laughed and said she'd never heard of him! I remember him telling his lass who knew nothing about football that it was a family tradition the first born male McQueen was always called Shankly, he ALMOST got away with it too.

His dad once asked why we called him Queenie, it clearly bothered him, we pointed out it was just a nickname, one lad asked 'have you never been called Queenie then Bill?

In a broad scouse accent he replied, 'One fella did once.......'.

RIP Queenie, we all saw it coming and plenty tried to help you mate, we didn't think he was this close though mate.
