Anyone dealt with neighbours over garden fences bordering both properties?

Three panels of one of our shared fences has collapsed and the tenants next door have asked for it to be fixed by their landlady. She only lives a couple of doors down and has come up to see us about getting it fixed. She really wants to fix the entire fence, by planting concrete posts and fitting new fences, and has got a local tradesman to quote for the job, including skip hire and poisoning the ivy that has contributed. Problem is it's come in about £900 each, which we simply can't afford.

We've suggested that we'll fix the 3 panels that are in a bad state by re-spiking the posts and putting in new fences, as the posts are on our side. But they're adamant they want the whole lot re-done. We've read around the grey area and most websites suggest in lieu of any info in the title plan (which there isn't), the general rule is that if fence posts are on your side, you are responsible. Is it reasonable to offer to fix the 3 badly damaged parts ourselves, but if they want to go ahead and do the whole job lot, we can only offer them what we'd spend on that (£150 ish)?
