Kicker says Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson wants bring Hyypia back to Anfield as a PLAYER-coach.

 

Hyypia was offered a coaching role at Anfield 12 months ago, but chose to leave for a playing contract with Bayer Leverkusen.

PHILIPP DEGEN has been told his Anfield career is over.

 

The Liverpool defender, who has underwhelmed during the two years he has been at the club, does not figure in Roy Hodgson’s plans for the new campaign.

 

A handful of clubs on the continent have already expressed an interest in Degen – who made just 12 first team appearances – and Hodgson believes it would best for all if he finds pastures new.

 

“Philipp didn’t get a look in last year and will find it hard to get a look in this year,” said Hodgson.

 

“If he wants to play regularly, he needs to find a club that will say you are our number one man.

 

“He’s not going to be the number one man here with us, so does he want another long season playing on the bench not getting any games?

 

“He’s too old to play for the reserves, he’s an ex-Swiss international and if he wants his international place back, then he is going to have to look elsewhere.”

 

With Emiliano Insua, Yossi Benayoun and Fabio Aurelio all gone, Degen on his way and Albert Riera soon to follow, Hodgson’s overhaul of Liverpool’s squad is well under way.

 

“Degen has been involved here because he is one of the few senior players over here,” Hodgson, whose side face FC Grasshopper tonight, continued.

 

“But he won’t be as involved when the other players return. We have had one or two clubs expressed an interest and it would be better for him to move on.”

 

 

Reds demand £6m for N'Gog

 

Liverpool want £6 million for French fringe striker David N'Gog as they try to raise funds for new players.

 

N'Gog can go at the right price - quoted to several clubs in the Premier League and round Europe - although he may have to play in the Europa League qualifiers before going.

 

The Kop squad man is wanted by West Brom on loan, while Newcastle and Bolton have made inquiries about his availability - but the valuation is way too high.

 

Liverpool are still hopeful of a big pay day on N'Gog, with Nice's Loic Remy on their hit list but valued at around £14.3 million.

Agree on Riera. Ngog I'm not sure of, supporting him massively last season and he had a good run but I've got the impression that Dalle Valle is in Hodgson's thoughts for this season as 3rd/4th choice and the £6 million could be used elsewhere.

Hyypia in a player coach role would be a superb move though, could potentially ship Skrtel and Kyriagkos out with Carra, Agger, Hyypia, Wilson and Ayala/Kelly covering.

i just dont think he was a Rafa type player. he didnt have the defensive side of the game that Rafa looked for in players, and it resulted in a reluctance to give him a runin the side. maybe a new manager will give him confidence and a run. there is a player in there somewhere

Just can't see how he is going to get the run in the side though. Especially with Cole signing

I hope he keeps showing the attitude he did the back end of last season though.
