I was looking into some of the teams we could draw based on the ticketing thread a bit earlier.

Jesus there are some proper dodgy destinations.

Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Armenia look the worst.

 

Not sure if the play-off round (the round after the 3rd round qualifier) is seeded or not as well. Can't see a mention of it, and the CL one isn't. We could end up playing a decent side. I think it might be seeded actually.

most of the early games are against utter bobbins though, so we can blood a lot of the young'uns.

 

It is feasible to play - say - Pepe, plus 5 kids (meaning fringe, squad etc players) and 5 more senior ones, rotating the senior ones - so if Gerrard plays one game, he doesn't play the next.

 

We should be good enough to get as far as Christmas on that basis

i agree, plus with the way they start early, and with the shambles that has been our pre season and lacklustre starts to campaigns in recent years, we could treat the early games as pre season, although with a better competitive edge. the group teams we get are likely to be of a similar standard to the whipping boys you get in the CL groups.

 

personally, i wouldnt have Torres or Gerrard anywhere near the UEFA till at least the last 16

yeah - like Wayne says, the early start can stand in for some pre-season games, we don't want to get to the final with senior players playing all/most of the games. While I want us to win the thing, pragmatism has to be the way forward.

 

 

If Nemeth, Pacheco et al really have the potential, this is their chance to make big strides. We have about 60 fecking players of varying ability from, would push for a place on the YNWA bench to look pretty good

I agree. I want to see Pacheco behind Dalla Valle, with Ecclestone on 1 wing, with Spearing, Kelly, and even Bouzanis given a game in the UEFA cup.
