barnesology Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Really absolutely everything would have to go right in Roy's first season for us to challenge for the title, but, what in your opinion would be the 3 aspects that would give us a wholeheartedly unexpected triumph. 1. Roy's new signings hit the ground running (really fast) and all have as good a 1st season as Nando did.2. Torres scores 30+, Stevie 20+, Jocan 10+ etc3. Last seasons top 4 have a season like we've just had?? Stranger things have happened. Honest.
Ramón Benítez Hernández Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Without beach balls, injuries and poor form from normally consistent players, and we might actually make the top 4. The league? No way.

Hightown Phil Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Why don't you just set your money on fire? Or back Spurs.
sutty Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Why don't you just set your money on fire? Or back Spurs. ha ha! At least burning it will keep you warm
barnesology Posted July 2, 2010 Author Posted July 2, 2010 Why don't you just set your money on fire? Or back Spurs. Which option fills me with the most revulsion I wonder, burning a tenner or being a Spurs fan?, it's a no brainer really eh. I'd happily burn my own money, than have had to go down The Lane for the last 20 years. Jesus the thought of that chills my blood.
Hightown Phil Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 You do realise that if you back someone to win the league you don't have to support them, don't you?
Sion Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 The only way we're getting close to winning the league is if Torres, Gerrard, Masch stay and we sign a top quality CB, replace Lucas with a top quality CM, sign a winger and striker. So no, it isn't worth a punt.

I think if we get to break even and start pushing now we can do something interesting at least.
Sion Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 And even then we only have one left back who probably isn't good enough to be our second choice left back. Oh yeah forgot about that. Add a LB to my list. I think if we get to break even and start pushing now we can do something interesting at least. Yeah. If we can keep the big 3. The likes of Babel, Riera, Benayoun, Aquilani/Lucas, Skrtel...should in theory raise enough funds to at least try and improve on what we have. As it stands it'll be a struggle just to stand still.
Falconhoof Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 I'd snap your arm off for 4th place. All the UEFA cup games are going to be a distraction, I hope he plays the kids in the cups.

Coyler Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 [ifthebestplayersstayandjovanovicisamazing]All I'm hoping for is for a really jammy season injurywise and we'll do pretty well. We might even do really well if it's one of those seasons where there's only one team that goes through the whole season with the physio pretty much untroubled and the other big teams have middling to poor seasons in that respect; they don't even need to have total injury carnage. Plus, there's no way we're getting as many poxy beachball-quality decisions this season.[/ifthebestplayersstayandjovanovicisamazing]
Hassony Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 I'd snap your arm off for 4th place. All the UEFA cup games are going to be a distraction, I hope he plays the kids in the cups. Uefa cup is probably our best chance of a trophy for the next few years, we should take it seriously we are not aston villa your first statement is a really sad indication of where we are at the moment, when only 18 months ago we were the number one ranked team in europe and we were beating real madrid by four goals
boohog Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Take the bet. Put at least a grand on it. You'll be a forum hero.
barnesology Posted July 5, 2010 Author Posted July 5, 2010 You do realise that if you back someone to win the league you don't have to support them, don't you? Yes, any idiot would. The fact you needed to ask that question makes me wonder what other pearls of wisdom you have for us Phil??!! lol ps. Just for future convo's, I'm aware that water's wet, fire's hot etc etc

barnesology Posted July 5, 2010 Author Posted July 5, 2010 (edited) Take the bet. Put at least a grand on it. You'll be a forum hero. I have taken the bet. Sadly my finances are shorter than a midgit on it's knees at the mo' so £20 is all I could blow. It seems utterly stupid!, complete waste of money. But then coming back from 3 goals down against A.C Milan in the space of 10 minutes even now seems a ridiculous statement. Game on. Edited July 5, 2010 by barnesology
Hassony Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 But then coming back from 3 goals down against A.C Milan in the space of 10 minutes even now seems a ridiculous statement. the difference is that was a one off game, and we had a world class manager
boohog Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 the difference is that was a one off game, and we had a world class manager Aye, but he should still stick a grand on it. For the craik.
