Proves that mud sticks :(

In the absence of active investigation, opinions are formed on the basis of popular reporting.

The days after the tragedy are much higher profile than a legal investigations years after the event.

Incredibly sad and re-inforces the opposition to that newspaper !

obviously massively uninformed, and is an automatic response to those who don't know/care, which he should. It grates that his apology included the line "I know that fan unrest played no part in the terrible events of April 1989...". Which begs the f***ing question Jeremy...

If of any help, e-mail sent from Malta to that Hawker t***:

Dear Mr. Hawker,

I am not a UK citizen but I am a keen follower of British politics and also British culture. My country’s culture is linked to yours as a result of Malta having been part of the British Empire for so long. Like many people here I am a keen follower of English football. I am a proud Liverpool supporter and have been an avid follower of the team for near 30yrs.

I find your comments on Twitter in which you blamed hooliganism for the tragedy at Hillsborough, disgusting to say the least. 96 people died on the day and countless lives have been affected negatively ever since. Family members still mourn the death of loved ones; survivors have been through hell to say the least. The official reports on the incident have at no point ever blamed hooliganism. It was ill-informed, sensationalist reporting by people like Kelvin Mackenzie at The Sun that mentioned hooliganism. Unfortunately, those lies still circulate 21yrs after the tragedy.

Your comments were insensitive and ignorant. Your recent Tweets in which you try to make light of them are adding insult to injury. You and Secretary Hunt have brought more hurt to the Hillsborough families. A heartfelt apology is what is needed and not glossing over a lie that you have repeated.

Regards,

this man is an arrogant b*****d, his sick head has now worked out he can politically gain from his spurious comments, he is now actually revelling in this, i honestly can't believe someone can be this crass:

"Last time I said sorry in a local newspaper (2006) for something ppl thought I should apologise for, I came top in the town council election"

surely as a councillor in a position of power he has professional responsibility to put the public first? no matter where in the country they are. he should be made to pay for this calumny

Coalition minister Jeremy Hunt may deliver a second slap in the face to the families of the Hillsborough victims, Labour MPs have warned.

Just days ago he blamed hooliganism for the 1989 tragedy which left 96 dead.

Sources at the Department of Culture Media and Sport say he is taking a new look at the long-awaited probe into their deaths.

There are concerns he will restrict the powers of the nine-strong committee set up last year to study secret documents into the disaster. A source said: "Things are not as simple as before."

Labour MP for Liverpool Walton Steve Rotherham: "It would be an insult if they were to try to curtail this panel. It will feed fears they are not interested in truth."
