A credit to all involved.
Red Kent Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Great turnout. Geat day. A credit to all involved.Certainly was. A lot better than I thought it would be.
Zoob Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Was top story on all the news networks in the US. The 2 Thousand fans who turned up, who until now were undecided about Hicks and Gillett are now against the duo I recon one more protest like this and they'll definitely sell up for a reasonable price.
Leo No.8 Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Was top story on all the news networks in the US. Really? Excellent that, well done all round.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Are SkySportsNews covering it ? Given there is no WC today, I was thinking it might get a sniff.
Redwire Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Really? Excellent that, well done all round. He's just being a sarky t***.
Zoob Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 He's just being a sarky t***. I think Leo was aware of my sarcasm. I just don't really know what SOS were trying to achieve today. They're preaching to the converted, and also by having it today it could be interpreted as anti American rather than anti Gillett and Hicks. And did SOS send out a press release to news agencies (including US based media) to try to get some coverage where it might actually have a tiny bit of impact? I just can't help but feel SOS sometimes miss the point (like a campaign to have photos taken with 'not welcome here' signs [very good idea], and then instead of getting people to mail those pics to Gillett and Hicks, mail them to SOS, as if anyone is going to care about that... There was a posting about ideas for direct action to be sent to SOS. I know several people who posted well thought out ideas over a month ago, who either got no response, or a 'we're proceeding with our own idea' responses. Just seems somewhat random...

owenthomas Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Certainly was. A lot better than I thought it would be.yeah, it was better than i thought too.. made up about that.. was a bit worried there might not be many but well done to all involved..
Red Kent Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 (edited) Nice to see Michael Shields there with his mum and dad, and also Brian Reade and Tony Barrett there having a gab together. Edited July 4, 2010 by Kev
New York Red Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 (edited) Really? Excellent that, well done all round. Ohhhh, Leo. Come on mate!!!!! Stop letting your guard down! I think Leo was aware of my sarcasm. I just don't really know what SOS were trying to achieve today. They're preaching to the converted, and also by having it today it could be interpreted as anti American rather than anti Gillett and Hicks. I know several people who posted well thought out ideas over a month ago, who either got no response, or a 'we're proceeding with our own idea' responses. Just seems somewhat random... I've probably sent them half a dozen detailed emails. I've called them 2-3 times too. I haven't got a single response. Edited July 4, 2010 by New York Red
aka Dus Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 So there is a situation where some posters whose views aren't forming a central part of Union activity. And they are bitter enough about it (which is random enough in itself) to carry a grudge forward way way way after the point where they should have disengaged from what the Union is doing ongoing. Very weird, very petty.

And they are bitter enough about it (which is random enough in itself) to carry a grudge forward way way way after the point where they should have disengaged from what the Union is doing ongoing. Very weird, very petty. It isn't that there is ego involved mate. It is the suspicion that there are a bunch of rank amateurs running it who are doing no good at all other than the stroke their own egos and to placate the masses. I'd like to hear about anybody's interaction with SOS and what their plans are. Seriously. There are a lot of Liverpool fans who have resources available who could really help this cause out and it would be great to hear that they are availing themselves of these resources. I know they are not full-time employees, but I'd expect more out of them. I'd expect some interaction, some appeals for help for a greater plan, some plan for a boycott or consistent pressure. I fear that it is all just a waste of time.
KIDORIGINAL Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 I'm gutted that I couldn't make it this afternoon. The people who I would have stayed with tonight were all away and a hotel was too expensive so I was left at home sadly. It's a massive credit to the Union that this went ahead though so kudos to them and also to those who turned out. We'll have our club back eventually.
Zoob Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 So there is a situation where some posters whose views aren't forming a central part of Union activity. And they are bitter enough about it (which is random enough in itself) to carry a grudge forward way way way after the point where they should have disengaged from what the Union is doing ongoing. Very weird, very petty. Think you're missing the point (as is anyone who thinks this has anything to do with ego or being petty). In relation to different events / strategies / website releases, I've expressed support for SOS, and I've been critical of SOS (perhaps I was rather flippant earlier, which came across as provocative). It's really not about being deluded enough to think that my view (or anyone else'sshould be forming a central part of SOS strategy. For me it's the fact that SOS are potentially a very useful party in the struggle to get rid of Gillett and Hicks, but seem to take 1 step forwards, 2 steps backwards, 7 steps forwards 6 steps backwards etc etc... it's just such a mix and match of the good, the bad, the ugly and the random.
Bromage Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 The key point here surely is what happens next. How will SOS use the momentum created here in a positive way and build support for this cause?
meredithmathieson Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 It isn't that there is ego involved mate. It is the suspicion that there are a bunch of rank amateurs running it who are doing no good at all other than the stroke their own egos and to placate the masses. Patronising and b******s all in one go. Like the discussion about boycotts at the last meeting? When there must have been 20 competing ideas forwarded, and the call from SOS was that they were asking what their members wanted to do, looking for ideas and discussing the pros and cons - the realisation that a call for a blanket boycott is almost certainly doomed to failure etc, the promotion of calling for a boycott of one particular stand - the Kemlyn probably - for a live televised game etc. I fear that it is all just a waste of time. I feel that it has done a lot of good, and is now becoming more and more media savvy.
PeeG Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 As has been covered, we are all volunteers and doing what we can. You can e-mail me if you have any concerns at community@spiritofshankly.com and I will answer them. Have to remember there is a lot of e-mails we get sometimes, particularly to the admin address and it is impossible for us to put a massive reply to each and every one sometimes. We do look at all ideas, but they also have to be judged on what is achievable and feasible as well. There are some ideas which will make a massive impact if they worked, but that the chance of working is unlikely and could set us back further so you have to build on what you can step by step. And yes, a press release was sent to US based media contacts. http://blogs.dallasobserver.com/unfairpark/2010/06/in_liverpool_on_july_4_reds_su.php
Molby Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 some ideas require virtually no SOS input they just need to sign them off, put their name to them and solicit their existing database of members the actual work is undertaken by sub-committee. In spite of this, it seems near impossible sometimes, to get 'turning point' initiatives under way (I'm using a kind of WW2 analogy here again) instead what we have is a series of commendable initiatives that build awareness and add credibility and keep us respectable etc etc nevertheless, very soon, depending, I guess, on what happens in the next month, there will be an attempt at a final push, along the lines of what's been posted in the action thread and for which there is already support and commitment from posters on here that could well fall at the first hurdle but it will happen if Broughton has sold us a pup in the meantime, Carra and others: I'd be circumspect about wading in with the insults to Zoob and others who have already pledged their time and support to said initiatives
smithdown Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Best thing SoS have done by far. Well played all round. There were enough people there to block the bus for half an hour when the time comes. Seeing those numbers showed that direct action is possible.
allez les rouges Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 non of the detractors appear to have understood what yesterday was about. Yesterday was primarily the launch of the Credit Union which is an excellent idea. For the first time since Share Liverpools pie in the sky attempt to raise money, the credit union has come up with a workable plan for the implementation. I signed up a couple of months ago, and yesterday was the first event of theirs that I attended. i was very impressed.
johngibo YPC Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 It was a good dayAnd a good launch for the credit unionthought all the speakers were good apart from Steve Rotherham, who i normally like
smithdown Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 McNabb wants a cuffing though, as always. COME ON SCOUSERS!!!! Behave. Jay's speech was sound.
