dfadd Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Hi all - First off, lemme see fantastic site! I was over in England in May 2009 visiting my best friend Dave Stewart (who I believe you all know as Igor) and he introduced me to this site. He also introduced me to Liverpool, and I have been a heavy happy fan since. Having seen this site, I really get a feel for the passion and history of Liverpool fans and their love for their team. Now, I am in full agreement - the f***ing americans need to go!!! I also danced a jig when Rafa went bye byeeeeeeee! But this SOS group...how many US liverpool fans quit supporting the club because of that flag-burning nonsense? Now, I can hear the arguments - "who cares, we dont need any f***ing yanks!!", "f*** off, this is OUR team and we dont need them!!" - but chaps, we DO need them! And I say we because I AM a Liverpool fan and no jerkoff who thinks f***ing off my country is gonna make anyone make changes for em is gonna stop that But seriously..fact is, we are in debt. That means, every fan we LOSE, is a chunk of money that is no longer there to get us even! f***ing off everyone because they have the misfortune of being born in the same country as a couple of c***s is really ridiculous. Burn flags? Hate on all Americans? I don't get it! Hell, I spent the last couple weeks telling folks over here running there mouths about BP and the oil leak, that it has ZERO to do with brits! That rig is run by mexicans & americans, and most of the rescuse workers are too! I happen to love the UK and its people, and I'll be damned I'll let people talk s***, especially about something that is the responsibility of a multi-national corp. and the US government. So, it did (and I know this sounds girly) hurt a bit to watch liverpool fans in essense spit in my face and tell me to go f*** myself because 2 men, who I don't know, have done what some business folks of ALL nationalities do - mess a good company up for money because they are greedy a*****s!! Because all they view Liverpool as a money maker, and don't understand it's a game and a team we LOVE! Anyway, figured my first post would be on this, but I'm hoping to be much more active here, cuz you guys are a blast to watch in action! Here's to a GREAT 2010/2011 - and here's to ALL TRUE LIVERPOOL FANS - Keep it strong, keep the faith, we'll win the title and stick our thumbs up those Manc b******s asses

Sion Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 how many US liverpool fans quit supporting the club because of that flag-burning nonsense? Any fans who care more about a flag than LFC aren't welcome here as far as i'm concerned. Please be a wind-up
Igors Uncle Dave Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Interesting first post there my old mate. The burning of the flag didnt do much for me to be honest and it just reminded me of events in the middle east, not Liverpool. As you rightly said, there will be those from the states who do not like this and will feel alienated. This is the last thing we want to be doing, its not america we need to target, its Hicks and Gillette. Anyway Ed, (Dfadd) - good to see you posting mate
Cheesecake Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 (edited) The flag burning wasnt aimed at you but at Tom & George. US fan groups number a great many fans, very few if any will know the two duffbags personally. This protest wasnt aimed at any of those fans either. It was a statement of frustration and of anger, directly straight at Hicks and Gillett. No one is looking to attack fans or aim abuse at them just because of where they come from. You'll find people from many countries here on this site, different creeds and colours, different sexes and different sexual orientation. This is a welcoming site for all fans and Liverpool is a club that does the same. To say someone has 'spat in your face' is OTT in my opinion but I can also understand why offence could be taken at the burning of a flag. But as I said, that gesture was aimed at 2 specific people. If G&H had their own flag, that would have been burnt, not sure how to set fire to a wet turd though. Edited June 4, 2010 by DPD1973
Hodgson for Chelsea Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 (edited) I'd just like to apologise (as an LFC fan) for any offence burning the US flag might have caused our US fanbase. The intention was to protest against G&H and burning the US flag was a vehicle to do that, not a slight on all Americans, who I have always found to be good people. Rafa leaving under a different ownership might be a good thing, but under these owners...who knows. With Broughton drumming up support for Mark Hughes who knows where we'll end up. Igors Uncle Dave Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Any fans who care more about a flag than LFC aren't welcome here as far as i'm concerned. Please be a wind-up Sion, what you dont see mate is that those from other countries, who have started to follow the sport and Liverpool, do not have the unbrringing that you and I have. I was born a Liverpool fan and for 48 years have followed them through thick and thin. As I have said, our newer followers, those from all parts of the globe, support the club and bring in vital revenue to us. The last thing we need to be doing is, doing something that makes them go elsewhere.

But when these fans say things like 'I also danced a jig when Rafa went bye byeeeeeeee!' It makes me less understanding.
dfadd Posted June 4, 2010 Author Posted June 4, 2010 To those taking umbrage, I wasn't having a go. Igor just has always said you guys are the most open-minded and best group of LFC fans, and so it seemed to chat to other fans about those frustrations this was a good place. Besides, I'm interested in the other viewpoints of it. It's a good point made that the burning of the flag was aimed at the owners, but as Igor said, when you aren't from the UK, and you spend most the time hearing what a c**k you are being an american, it does skew the viewpoint to feeling like it is indeed aimed at all americans. As I said, I don't think it's right for anyone to do that to anyone. And yes, I DO take burning a countries flag over a football team. Just like I would take the British flag being burned a big insult over a footy team. But, as I said, really wanted to say hi, and throw out this that was bothering me to a group who I had been told could really look at a subject and discuss it without making the personal attacks or short snide answers. so i'm not allowed to be or say i'm happy that a manager i don't think was good at all for the club is gone? interesting
Falconhoof Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 how many US liverpool fans quit supporting the club because of that flag-burning nonsense? hardly any. end of story.
Igors Uncle Dave Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 I quite agree in principal. But when these fans say things like 'I also danced a jig when Rafa went bye byeeeeeeee!' It makes me less understanding. Sion, Im not sad to see Rafa go. I think its time for a change mate, I would not say dancing a jig but then we are all different. The club needs changes and until we are rid of Hicks and Gillette we can not move on. Im glad the club experienced the times with Rafa and that final will be remembered for a long time. hardly any. end of story. You know this as fact? - Anything to back up your statement?
Billy Dane Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Don't think burning an American flag was the way to go myself, but then I wouldn't give a stuff if people were burning the Union Jack in London, New York or Paris. Many people on here have different views on Rafa leaving. Personally I think he should have stayed, so I'm going to disagree with anyone saying otherwise, new to the site or not, particularly if they are "dancing a jig" about it when we still have these two dick heads as owners.
Falconhoof Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Anything to back up your statement? Just good judgement. foreign fans aren't significant enough contributors to the finance of football in this country. You need to look at the accounts of clubs to see that. Less still the fans of one country.Dilute that further by the numbers who are even awareof the protest and dilute it homeopathically further by the number of fans who both send any money across the atlantic and who will now withdraw that fistfull of dollars. Its negligable at best, There's also the fact that burning american flags is just as likely to gain support in other parts of the world
Murphman Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Any friend of Dave is sound so far as I'm concerned. Apart from Snorky of course.
stressederic Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Strictly speaking it wasn't the American's flag. It belonged to the bloke who brought it along. It was his flag. He just burnt it.
Rocheteau Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 They were burning Gerrard shirts a couple of years ago, I obviously dont know the thinking of those involved but Id be surprised if a bit of attention seeking was not a motivating factor. However you have an understanding of the very deep seated hatred which has been unleashed at the particular way this club has been treated and its not entirely unrelated to the way American business approaches sport so people are going to make the inevitable connections, but its a blunt expression. I'd take this one on the chin if you can
David Hodgson Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 I quite agree in principal. But when these fans say things like 'I also danced a jig when Rafa went bye byeeeeeeee!' It makes me less understanding. ffs Sion it's a game of opinions n all that. He hates a manager, you love him. He may idolise Babel and Riise, whilst you might want to set fire ton them. The individuals aren't the club.

sean Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 This burning stuff is rubbish, it's aimed at nobody except the idiot SSN watchers. I was thinking yesterday that the flag was brought down, not by the fans, but to et a picture. I remember Gerrard's shirt being burned. I'd not be offended by it, it's silly stuff. If you can't work our we're not anti-american (another days work), but aniti Tom & George, you've started in the wrong place.
Ramón Benítez Hernández Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 They burnt a red, blue and white piece of cloth with a few stars on it. What is all the fuss about?
Gunga Din Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 burning the flag worked. it has got people talking, and that has to be a good thing, no such thing as bad publicity. and i'd say for every american fan we lost, we probably gained about a hundred from the middle east
Molby Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 what are we doing? I mean what the f*** are we doing? a flag.....ffs
Tones Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 burning the flag worked. it has got people talking, and that has to be a good thing, no such thing as bad publicity. and i'd say for every american fan we lost, we probably gained about a hundred from the middle east true Wayne. Any fan who leaves ovcer the burning of a flag isnt much of a fan anyway.
Ramón Benítez Hernández Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 If any of you f*ckin scousers burn the Aussie flag, I'm off.
