Is this a legal and reasonable way for an employer to choose who to let go?

Looks like I'm being made redundant (although the prick didn't use that work) and that, apparently is the criteria they have used - the only reason why it has to be me.

A few people have told they can't pick me just because I was the last person to joing from within my department (by a week, I should add).

A friend reckons they should be telling me what process they went through, what criteria they used.

What makes it more galling is, there's a girl in my department who's only worked there for about six months. She's been in the company for a few years more than I have I should say, but up until Xmas time she was in a different department. The boss specifically said he had to pick someone from my department to let go, so she's staying and I'm getting the boot.

s*** few days.
