I just watched the Boca Juniors-Seattle Sounders friendly. My first MLS related game (well watching the whole thing anyway).

A few comments:

-- I was pleasantly surprised at how good Seattle were.

-- The crowd in Seattle were pretty good. Very enthusiastic and over 40,000 there.

-- I wonder why we don't loan players out to MLS teams? There are a number of loan players in the league now and it would be a great way to develop prospects.

Cos its dead far and the quality of the league is generally crap?

Boca are pants. Finished 16th in the 2010 Clausura. By no means a measure of quality.

The standard is improving, possibly relatively quickly, but is still considerably below that of Championship level; I'd have thought most teams would struggle in League One. Loans would be interesting but the timing of their season doesn't fit in with ours.

I was in New York the week before last and watched the Red Bulls' games against Seattle Sounders and Columbus Crew.

I was shocked by how poor the standard was. It was like watching young kids playing, all following the ball, running around in groups.

I'd say it was League 1 standard and maybe not even as good as that.

If Henry does go to the Red Bulls next year, he'll score a hatful.

salary cap is still $150000 a season there isn't it? imagine that's not enough to be able to take the majority of british-based players on loan.

It's an enforcable limit upon how much each player can be paid for his services - but that's not important right now.

some players earn $50K a year while the likes of Beckham earn $50k a week

also, the fact that the contract is with the league, rather than the club is just stupid

The Mancs are playing in Kansas City in July.

On the way in and out of Omaha on Interstate 80 we now have enormous ad boards with Shrek's face in the middle and a few others in the background.

It's sickening, but worse is the digital board that shows numerous Manc players and scenes of celebration on one of the main roads in Kansas City.

MLS is awful, especially the level of defending. It's (the defending) no better than the local amateur league we have, they're extremely poor both positionally and when it comes to decision making. Far too eager to go to ground.
