laptop hard drive has gone. help needed

i gave my mother my old laptop and she has since signed up to BB,however, the laptop i gave her has now collapsed. i feel guilty about this and need to get it fixed but dont want to pay too muc as i am skint.

Would any laptop hard drive fit, or do i need a specific one. or do i buy a second hand one?

the laptop model is HP compaq nx 9010
