He'll have to go and go immediately to limit the fallout.

I dont pretend to know the inner workings, but from the outside he's had a lot of noise in his two years, losing two CEOs, massive chaos and flux in the World Cup bid team and dealings and now this. Maybe he's been a steady hand holding it all together or just maybe he's a huge part of the nonsense.

"Dear FA,

It is with some regret that I note the reports today re. your Chairman, Lord Triesman. Sadly, it is inevitable that you now look for a new Chairman and leader of the 2018 bid team. May I bring to your attention the excellent work that Christian Purslow is doing at Liverpool. Sure, it would be a huge loss to the club and the Premier League as a whole but I believe the 2018 goal is the bigger imperative here."

Maybe if we all sent it?......

Full marks to the "lady" in question for demonstrating her total honesty and integrity

For several minutes Lord Triesman expresses fears about English Premiership clubs falling into dubious foreign hands.

‘I keep saying a “fit and proper person” test is really really crucial and the Premier League leadership say, if you’re not convicted of something then it’s just your judgment about whether you like them or not.’ He said the League bosses were ‘totally dismissive of my argument’.

He added that he told them: ‘The logic of the argument if you take it to its logical conclusion is Robert Mugabe will never be convicted of anything in Zimbabwe, he runs it, he could own a club, he would pass the test. Nelson Mandela on the other hand was convicted of terrorist crimes, he doesn’t want it written off his record because he’s very proud of it. Mandela can’t own a club, Mugabe can.

Shows the PL attitude to fit and proper owners up for the b******s it is.

Seems there might need to pass a fit and proper test to get a job in the FA.

If this costs England the 18 WC, how does the Mail justify this sting as in the public interest?

They're scummers.

still think it's funny though.

It's amusing that he would gossip about such nefarious goings on. I am sure half of the furious reaction coming out of Moscow/Madrid/Lisbon is the smarting embarrassment at the fact that such a senior official would essentially validate the general perception/suspicion that such things do happen.

However, the Mail should really be hung out for this.

It's always the same in all the 'patriotic' right wing papers whenevver we bid for anything like this - especially football, though they tried a fair bit to dreail the Olmpic bid and yet we still managed to get that.

Not sure the bid is dead yet - for a start, you can bet some FA cheifs around the globe will be sympathetic to what he's been caught saying.

he's clearly a sad old get who fell for the oldest sting in the book. young bit of skirt fluttering her eyelids at him and out come the state secrets. bet he now regrets not just talking to her about all the time he has spent with david beckham.

the other papers will hang the mail for this, never fear. 198 days' time you can bet that one certain hypocritical rag will have a front page proclaiming 'it was the mail wot lost it'.

It's not hard to see why a man of 66 might find Melissa Jacobs attractive.

With flowing flame red hair, a slim physique and ivory skin, she looks younger than her 37 years and has, it seems, an impressive academic background to boot
