Bank Account for Travelling

Using this form as a bit of a Q&A for travelling recently but I am in a bit of a pickle. Does anyone know what the best bank account for travelling to SE Asia, Australia and New Zealand would be? Been told Nationwide now 'charge' and HSBC Plus account is good but that costs per month. Been trawling for ages and most forum discussions seem to be out of date or inconclusive, so can anyone lend a hand? Cheers.
