Dominus Maximus Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 (edited) EDIT: Should of course have said Sunshine Thread. So it's officially over, this season that is. What a ride it has been. From beach balls to late goals to greek c**k-ups to injury hell. Those f***ing Americans royally screwed this club over in broad daylight and no one can put a stop to it. People slagging off the best manager we've have in twenty years, and after this it will only get worse. Well... So what. I fell in love with this club because of all the stories about how awesome and nice the fans are, and tonight, from my TV, it sounded awesome. We still have players like Torres and Gerrard and Aquilani really looked good tonight. We are a couple of defenders and an extra striker short of a great season next year. Hopefully we can focus 100 % on the league since there's no CL. Oh Football God please find some money for these transfers and we'll be alright. You can't win them all but you can always stay strong and proud of your team. I for one had a great first 90 minutes, and I can't see why we won't improve after the summer break. That is of course if we get some money in. We still have: One of the best keepers in the leagueA potentially great RB. A great CB pair in CarrAggerGreat midfielders in Mascher, Gerrard and AquilaniThe best striker there is The core is still strong. A litte luck in the market and we'll blow all these f*****s away. Good night all. Edited April 29, 2010 by Jallow
Gunga Din Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 i think carra is nearing the end of his time as a first choice CB sorry to piss on your thread so early but in all seriousness, we need to step back and look at this shambles of a season and see where we o from here. we do have the core of a side there, and i've said all season, we arent a bad team, we are a team playing badly. back to basics next season i think, playing to our strengths, and whoever is in charge, to add some pace to the side
Benzo-13 Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 We've had it for about two to three years now. That squad's f***ed.Unless there's huge investment I can't see us winning the league for a decade.

carrafan Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Think we have gone back from where we were at the end of the 07-08 season. Tactically, i'd like us to switch to a 442 which would mean that Torres isnt 50 yards away from the nearest red shirt when he's playing and we're stuck with someone not half as good when he's not. Signing Jovanovic already is a good move, we have one less position to worry about next year.. imo if we can get a targetman in the squad, that would be brilliant. We've missed not having a player who can change the game as a sub, this season and dare i say the last one too. Zigic maybe? Our left side needs some changes as well. We need a first choice player instead of Insua/Aurelio and someone better than Babel/Yossi/Riera would be nice. What we have is a lot of sellable assets whose sales can bring us some funds to buy new players. A 442 would mean that we could sell Lucas, Babel and Skrtel who would fetch us a decent amount really and still have the likes of Insua, Kuyt and Yossi in the squad. Selling Spearing, Nemeth, San Jose, Degen, El Zhar and Cavilieri would surely bring in some money and free wages as well. Sorry for turning this into a transfer thread but i believe that we need new players, new tactics and a better attitude from everyone for 90 minutes each game to turn this terrible season around. Dont think sacking Rafa for Mourinho is the answer to a league win although i wouldnt be too averse to a new manager bringing in new ideas to our table. Hopefully, G&H will not be Liverpool owners by mid August. Too many if's in there but i'm still hopeful.
Zoob Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Selling Spearing, Nemeth, San Jose, Degen, El Zhar and Cavilieri would surely bring in some money and free wages as well. It would free wages, but the wages freed from players leaving doesn't seem to be taken into account under the Purslow Paradigm. Selling the above players might make us 5-10 million but we need a lot more than that to get the striker, centre back, left back and a good wide player. And our squad depth is just pitiful at the moment.

Arsenal and Bayern have exactly what we don't.Clichy/Lahm, RvP/Robben and Arshavin/Ribery. Add the likes of them (Turan for example) to our eleven and relegate some others squad status. But that's only gonna be a pipedream under these owners!!
Zoob Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 I see your point, but Clichy has gone backwards over the last 18 months, and is a total waste of space on the ball. He makes Riise look like an expert at crossing the ball...

We've signed a good striker in Jovanovic, only need someone who can keep the ball under pressure in the opposition half and play second fiddle to Torres anyway. The left wing problem is huge though and its a shame that the robbing owners cannot free some extra money to buy players that we desperately need. The american media here is gobsmacked that the owners are expected to shell out money out of their own pockets and are supporting them to the brink. God knows what will happen financially especially with no CL for us.

He makes Riise look like an expert at crossing the ball...He's been better recently but it needs addressing. All the goals in this league are becoming 6yrd tap ins and all coming from wingers or full backs getting to the by line quick. We've zero in that respect hence our full on futile ploughs through the middle in away games. We made Wigan look like last nights Inter in that respect. Surely we can get a leftback and centrehalf for the money Skrtel and Lucas would give us? carrafan Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Regardless how well Maxi is doing at the moment we need another right winger. Not if we can convince Rafa to play Gerrard there. Journalists asked Benitez if failing to reach the Europa League final would have any impact on Liverpool's summer transfer plans. The manager replied: "It will be the same situation. Liverpool Football Club is a massive club and we will try to do our best. The name of the club is there." Quizzed on where he felt he would need to strengthen the Reds' squad, Benitez added: "In the past we have some players talking about signing three, four or five new players. I agree with them that, more or less, that is what we will have to do."

Interesting point. Funny thing is that Insua is actually decent when it comes to our attack (and has set up 4 or 5 goals this season). Unfortunately he's not a very good defender right now (maybe ever?), which is why we've looked so much more solid with Agger playing left back recently.
Cam Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 I think we've got to the point where rather than need a couple of £££m stars in the team and a handful of squad players we actually need to rip apart the team and build a new one. Six years we've been working towards this side and it's not got us anywhere. It's ageing, going backwards in the league, one-dimensional, has no pace, limited on-the-ball quality and lacking in confidence. Oh, and teams don't come back so well from losing semi-finals. Rafa (if he's still to be here) is yet to build a great team but six years is enough to scrap the idea and look at fresh ones - including formation. Everyone bar Torres, Reina, Mascherano and possibly Gerrard should be in danger of being replaced. This all ignores money and G&H, obviously.

Bootle Buck Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 In all seriousness Gerrard has become a pale comparison of his former self. Torres has become injury prone and affected by challenges on him. With those two not contributing anywhere near what they did last season, we were in trouble. We have too many players simply not good enough and a manager who has lost the ability to win games when needed. We overacheived last season despite looking poor at times. Our confidence was shot this season from day one and we simply can't do the things we have been good at over Rafa's tenure like play well away in Europe. Last year we had a never say day attitude this year it was a matter of when we would let teams beat us rather than how. I can't recall too many games I actually felt comfortable we would win apart from the lay down home games.

Knoxy Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 We need some decent wide players, we have for years. There's not many out there and we haven't got any money, so I'm not overly optimistic that we're finally going to solve this problem I'd settle for Torres staying fit all season

Gerrardrules Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 I honestly prefer Masch at right back then johnson. Not because of his error last night, but he's gash at defending and it's costing us.Not a surprise the mistale was made on the left where as our right hand side as almost faultless.
