I know there seems to be an expert on this forum for just about everything so I thought I'd give it a stab in here. In 5 weeks (June 1st) I'm off to South-East Asia for 25 days. The plan was to fly into Bangkok, do Thailand properly and travel down to Singapore which i'm flying out of (on to Sydney). But with the civil unrest in Bangkok the Foreign Office are saying people should only go to Thailand if its absolutely necessary. I can't see the violence or threats of violence situation changing drastically so that it is totally safe in the next 5 weeks and so now I'm a bit stuck on what to do. I can change my flight to another airport in the area (for an extra £100 - great...) but it seems I'll have to travel through Thailiand anyway to get through to Malaysia and on to Singapore where I fly out. Does anyone have any ideas on what my alternatives are in this situation? I basically have no knowledge of the area, what there is to do in certain places etc.. Was really looking forward to Bangkok and Thailand as a whole but is there any other way I could have a very meaningful 25 days while avoiding Thailand?

Pretty annoying that like 3 weeks after I booked it the whole place goes to s****. But at least its not happening while i'm there! I believe Thaksin Shinawatra (or his followers) are playing a big part in this violence. He's a nice guy, him.
