I've actually woken up in the night over this.

How do I tell three good kids they've not made the cut, I can only take 16 including the bench and only field 14 in total including subs, so two more won't get a kick (although they will get a medal).

How do I tell my son he's probably on the bench, mainly for tactical reasons, he's been immaculate all year.

The biggest game any of them have ever been involved in nor likely ever will, somehow the Beaconsfield SYCOB Youth Team, my mighty band of gangsta rappers and misfits have seen off the cream of the two counties and we've reached the final stage of our magical mystery tour which has included beating the favourites on penalties after a 5-5 draw!!

The lads have already told me they don't want to wear their trackies but will all be wearing shirt and tie, I've agreed so long as they ALL wear one and I'm wearing one too, so are my number two's.

We're being introduced to local County mafia before the game, all the old buffers in suits, but it all adds to the experience.

52 Seater coach leaves the club at 8.30, a few of the senior players will be on it, crate of beer in hand, it's already sorted!

The mums will be on the coach, camera's in hand whilst the dad's eye the ale.

But leaving kids out almost makes it not worth it, their upset when i called them was palpable, it's one of the hardest things I ever had to do, much harder than sacking people, people can always get a job, they only get one go at:
