carrafan Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 The greek loves the physical game doesnt he, proper centrehalf. Their targetman Cardozo didnt win much in the air today. I hope Agger starts at left back against Fulham as well. Makes us a bigger side. Is this a possible long term solution as well, espcially as it allows us to play a proper left winger (as opposed to the left midfielder) and goes well with Johnson bombing forward on the right. Has Dan played there for Denmark?
Mike Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 my god agger at left back improved our defensive solidity by roughly 100% needs must rafa...keep it like that now.
muleskinner Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 The Greek, for all that I miss Sami, is a great defender. Loves it.
stonty Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Soto has never let us down, comes in when needed & utterly dependable, full marks . Loves a tackle don't he? lol
yellow jumper Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 our best centre half partnership this season has been him and skrtel, for me.
Billy Talbot Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Big up Soto. Not sure how he'd cope with 3 or 4 games in 10 days though. He really throws himself about. Agger was good tonight. Although a lot of it was line clearance.
Mike Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 our best centre half partnership this season has been him and skrtel, for me. jeepers
Cam Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Could well become a big cult hero at the club. Kinda like a Ruddock but with the likeability of Biscan. He's not one we need to replace this summer - Rafa can concentrate on fullbacks.
pipnasty Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 my god agger at left back improved our defensive solidity by roughly 100% Oh yes. Thought he played really well too. And he loves going forward.
fildo Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 If soto hadn't been sent off earlier in the season he would have been still first choice. Fair play to him for still being able to put in that performance.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 He's f***ing sound. A couple of early shaky games, but it is difficult to slot in at CB - Ferdinand's still trying to shake them off - but great attitude & has a Sami-like unflappability & hardness
kop205 Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 He's f***ing sound. A couple of early shaky games, And didn't some people on here let us know about it? He got some disgraceful stick. Pleased for the lad. And although I don't think Agger is a long-term option for us at left-back - and although one of the few criticisms I'd have last night is that our centre backs did give it away too easily at times by going long - I would stick with that formation for the rest of the season, injuries permitting.
sean Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Greek just loves giving away corners. So he can defend a bit more. I like him. Proper rough-house centre back and Agger at left back was a revelation, or maybe that was just because Insua wasn't there. A traffic cone v Fulham p'raps?
fred milne Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 And although I don't think Agger is a long-term option for us at left-back - and although one of the few criticisms I'd have last night is that our centre backs did give it away too easily at times by going long - I would stick with that formation for the rest of the season, injuries permitting. The two CBs defended well but by god their distribution was awful. In games where we are expected to have most of the play, I'd want to have Agger back in the middle for that reason - that's probably all of our games except the Chelsea game.
KS Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 And although I don't think Agger is a long-term option for us at left-back - and although one of the few criticisms I'd have last night is that our centre backs did give it away too easily at times by going long - I would stick with that formation for the rest of the season, injuries permitting. ..or we could go for 3 at the back.. Johnson is probably better playing as a wing-back anyway...
torn Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Kinda like a Ruddock but with the likeability of Biscan. Genius.
Hassony Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 The greek has been our best centre back this season
Swipe Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Defo keep it like that. Agger was excellent I thought.
yellow jumper Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 we were better defensively too when carragher went right back for a few weeks, think those few weeks after reading were the most solid we've looked. may be something about having the extra centre half. but it highlights the problem back there.
cymrococh Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Agger unsurprisingly struggled at first, but like any class footballer he soon settled in and made the role his own.
crisps Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 surprised its taken so long to see Agger at LB although not his main position.
Swipe Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Agger unsurprisingly struggled at first, but like any class footballer he soon settled in and made the role his own. He looked really sleek going forward at times. You forget how good his left foot is. All peticured and s***.
Knox_Harrington Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Understand the cries of keep it like that and I'd really have liked to have seen Agger out there earlier this season but Carra and The Greek got exposed something rotten second half at Craven Cottage in harness so we may not see it again Sunday and if we don't the thinking behind it is perfectly logical.
