JonShar Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Teams based on squad members who have played the most games in their position. I'm not sure if this makes me feel better or not... the whole season I've been blaming injuries. JonShar Posted April 7, 2010 Author Posted April 7, 2010 i get the lucas rage looking at that Yeah, me too. Far too many games, Insua too.
Zoob Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 doesn't really mean much. Johnson has played right back more than any other player, but we still missed him hugely in the 2 months that he was out. Torres has played up front more than any other player, but some of those games he was clearly un-fit, and when he didn't play, we've had a combination of N'gog and Kuyt up front. Kuyt, Carra and Insua are basically the only ones there that have been injury free all season
JonShar Posted April 7, 2010 Author Posted April 7, 2010 Kuyt, Carra and Insua are basically the only ones there that have been injury free all season You mean other than Reina, Masch, & Lucas?
Gunga Din Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 You mean other than Reina, Masch, & Lucas? Gerrard hasnt missed that many either
JonShar Posted April 7, 2010 Author Posted April 7, 2010 Gerrard hasnt missed that many either Very true.
Maldini Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 (edited) Don't think that tells the story of the season really. Johnson missed 12 games, Agger 15 (although I think a handful of those are ones he was left out of), Torres 13 and Yossi and Gerrard missed 7 and 6 games respectively at crucial stages of the season. Their was a big overlap on those injuries too. Injuries weren't the only reason for our s*** form this season but they were a major factor. Edited April 7, 2010 by Maldini

Maldini Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Does show that our midfield isn't even nearly good enough. Agree with that, I think we all know that though.
Farmer's Tan Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 it's not so much the first team where our problem lies, lucas insua and carra aside its the fact we have f*** all quality to come in to replace injured players, especially torres.we are a bare bones team.Ngog who i believe has quality isn't ready yet,if we have a decent goalscorer like a crouch or someone of similar quality that could have come in and scored a few it would have made a world of difference,in spite of the s*** tactics and every other thing that has gone wrong this season.
Flanders Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Agree with that, I think we all know that though. What a difference Gareth Barry and David Silva would make to that team though.
Raj Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Gerrard hasnt missed that many either And he hasn't been fit for most of those

True, but I think a*** fall under the same category as us there. Our lack of bench strength has really hurt us, and Rieira not improving over a pretty strong year last year is disappointing. I do think with Evra at left back we'd be 18 point better off... he's rarely brought up, but that was a major coup when United got him instead of us, could have really changed things.
Zoob Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 (edited) You mean other than Reina, Masch, & Lucas? of course - forgot Lucas, who is the root cause of all that is wrong at the club . Masch missed a month with a knee injury, and also missed a couple of games after internationals. and of course Reina, without whom we'd be in a far worse position. Just think that in the greater scheme of things, your original post doesn't really mean much, aside unless it's to highlight that our squad isn't good enough (Which can be done by looking at our squad list, rather than who has played most games in their position). The fact that players like Gerrard and Torres have played the most games in their positions, does nothing to negate the fact that when they haven't played, they've been missed, and some of those games where they did play, (probably a dozen games between them) they clearly weren't fit, but played because a 40% fit Torres is better than a 100% fit N'gog. Johnson has played more games than any one of Kelly, Darby, Carragher or Mascherano at right back, but has still started only 25 out of 50 or so games, and when fit, has made a huge difference to our play. So, playing most games in position does not necessarily mean played most of the season I agree with your comments re Evra. Also, Arsenal have had injury problems as bad / possibly worse than we have, but I think their squad is actually stronger. Perhaps the main difference is that in Rosicky, Nasri, Fabregas and Arshavin, they have far more creativity in their midfield - both in terms of goals and assists. For us this season, Benayoun's and Gerrard's form have both been very patchy, which means we've had so little creativity, and Kuyt's form has also been dodgy, which means less goals. . Edit: and just to illustrate our lack of creativity: assist table - we don't have a single player in the top 20, which I think is quite damning. Gerrard with 6, and Benayoun / Insua with 4 have the most assists. Kind of interesting that Aquilani, who has played so little, has 3 Edited April 8, 2010 by Zoob
