ifanew Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 Calling all techies! Over the weekend my 1 year old daughter pulled my Dell inspiron 1545 laptop off the table by the power cable. The laptop still works but it won't charge as it landed on the power cable and a bit of plastic that holds the wires that goes in to the barrell of the power cable snapped off leaving exposed wires. As it was still under warranty, I took a punt and phoned Dell, but as expected, accidental damage isn't covered; they put me through to their repair section anyway and after I explained the damage they quoted me over £300 for the repair as they said that I'd need a new motherboard. Now I'm no expert but as the laptop works fine, apart from the fact that there's about 30 mins of power left in it, and the only damage appears to be to the input where the power cable goes in I was a bit doubtful about the repair and price I was quoted. Advice on repair, where I shoul go and what I should be looking for as a repair price would be appreciated; I've sat down and had a cup of Java whilst listening to MC Hammer but it didn't seem to make any difference. Many Thanks
