Spirit Of Shankly Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Spirit Of Shankly has recently emailed the Premier League, questioning the 'fit and proper' persons test done on football club owners, and questioning their role in allowing Tom Hicks and George Gillett to take charge and remain in control of our club. We would ask that you support us in demanding action from the Premier League. For information on how to do this please visit http://www.spiritofs...roper--q--.html. Spirit Of Shankly
muleskinner Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Has Tom Hicks been made bankrupt? I thought it was only Gillett (twice) who had?
muleskinner Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Hicks is on the verge as we speak... That maybe so but the email they are asking people to send states explicitly that Tom Hicks has been made bankrupt more than once: Both Hicks and Gillett have been made bankrupt on several occasions. Should their track records not set alarm bells ringing? I may be wrong but I have never read anything to suggest that Hicks has been made bankrupt.
Red Kent Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 This charge should be made towards Moores as well.
Zoob Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Not that I'd have any problem with the PL coming out and voicing concern / criticism, but I thought the 'fit and proper' persons test only came in after G+H took over.
KIDORIGINAL Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 I fully support the union but I am not sending any emails. If we want to get somewhere with this campaign against Hicks and Gillett, we need to be making friends with the people that can do something to help the club rather than deciding to piss them off. I know the green and gold down Salford is tedious as hell but we need to follow their example by at least looking professional rather than coming across as vigilantes. I know it's misleading but that's what we're becoming known as. As I said, I fully support the union and am a member myself. However, I just don't see this working for us. I'm more than willing to come up with ideas about what we could do if anyone thinks I'm being petulant by the way... We're all in this together.
RP Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 I'm more than willing to come up with ideas about what we could do if anyone thinks I'm being petulant by the way... Go on then ....
Rocheteau Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Good on Spirit of Shankly. However, I would hardly say that the premier league at the moment constitute a fit and proper organisation themselves or have they for years, so the hope that appealing to them would result in some kind of action against Mr Hicks and Mr Gillett is a bit forlorn. Maybe SOS should look at taking action which is likely to end in something actually happening rather than what can only be empty gestures. This is not really meant to be a criticism more an observation. I honestly admit I cant think of any legal form of action which would fit the bill without damaging the club though I'm sure someone else might

KIDORIGINAL Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Go on then .... • Get a piece in one of the nationals stating the Union's aims. Outline the issues the club has, what SOS has done so far, why joining is important and citing the long-term aims. I know it sounds exaggerated but there are 'f***loads' of fans that haven't a clue about our situation. Doing this would be a decent start? • Get the logo in places. The DLC billboards honestly would have been more effective with just the logo and a quick phrase. Get them in London and perhaps some European countries if feasible? I'm not sure, don't jump me on that last bit. • Organize meetings with RBS and the Premier League. Sit down with them and tell them what we want. Sure they'll get an idea through thousands of emails but it isn't like they're going to say 'oh, they're unhappy, let's throw those damn Yanks'. They know we're unhappy, telling them that just doesn't help us get it sorted surely?
stressederic Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 (edited) To be fair the Premier League's Fit and Proper Person adjudication board are quite busy at the moment, having a quick 5 minute chat with Pompey's next 2 owners. Edited March 31, 2010 by stressederic
fabfive Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Have to agree with the Kid. Why ask Liverpool supporters to email the Premier League? If I was Scudamore, Johnson, and Long of the Premier League, i'd be pissed off getting spammed by Liverpool supporters. I don't see how they're going to be best pleased with SOS.

Spirit Of Shankly do you have information about which prospective or actual club owners have been submitted to the fit & proper person's test? or if not do you know if it's publically available? i'd be interested in seeing which people were tested and found wanting and what parts of the world they come from.
muleskinner Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 (edited) This charge should be made towards Moores as well. I'm sure you have noticed ,but Moores doesn't own a Premier League club. It was the company they set up that went bankrupt in South America - http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport-old/football/2008/01/27/brazilian-fans-hit-out-at-liverpool-owner-98487-20300636/ He also defaulted on loans, when HSG was in it's previous form as South West Sports Group - http://dallas.bizjournals.com/dallas/stories/2003/07/07/daily9.html Greatwide Logistics filed for bankruptcy protection in 2008, owned by Investcorp and Hicks Holdings - http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601127&sid=aIN4oZjY3m3A http://dallas.bizjournals.com/dallas/stories/2008/11/03/story1.html?b=1225688400^1725664 ownership was returned to the creditors by the courts

I think its important to be 100% accurate when these sort of things are put together to keep it credible.
ali Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 So he hasn't personally been made bankrupt then? I think its important to be 100% accurate when these sort of things are put together to keep it credible. Nothing to stop you amending the wording or attaching the links in your mail as I have
muleskinner Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Nothing to stop you amending the wording or attaching the links in your mail as I have No, but its the sort of thing that critics of SOS will pick up on so they should try and get accusations correct before committing them to their site and expecting others to repeat them.
fabfive Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 No, but its the sort of thing that critics of SOS will pick up on so they should try and get accusations correct before committing them to their site and expecting others to repeat them. It's just not very professional is it. Not just the misinformation in the op. They want Scudamore and the premier league to look into the fit and proper clause. Instead of contacting them to discuss the whole situation, SOS resorts to guerrilla tactics of spamming the very people they want help with. So unprofessional. And makes Liverpool supporters seem like a bunch of whingers. Scudamore and gang have all the contacts in and around the game and we are made to look like classless scallies. Quite frankly it is embarrassing. What's next, direct action against the FA because they didn't stop G&H from buying the club and won't stop Rhone on anyone else from becoming an investor? Please Mr. FA we can't budge them but you should. The idea of strengthening the fit and proper clause is an excellent one. But SOS poorly execute how to go about it.
